שם המשפחה - רפפורט: Those interested in the origin of the Rapaport name might want to read "Rapa and Rapaport Families in Northern Italy in the 15th and 16th Century,'' by Daniele Nissim (AVOTAYNU, Vol. XIX, No. 1, Spring 2003). Nissim is an expert on the history of the first Hebrew typographies in Italy. His article, complete with extensive source references, takes issue with some of the claims made by the late Paul Jacobi and others. Nissim offers evidence that the Rapa surname is to be spelled with a p, not an f, cites the earliest exant written mention of the family tradition that the name Rapa comes from Rabe (raven in German), identifies the first known person whose surname is Rapa-porto (Rapaport) and offer evidence that the ending "Porto" is an abbreviation of Porto Bufole.
