Jennifer Lopez February 01, 2001 MARK STEINES was able to wrangle in the busy JENNIFER LOPEZ as she prepped for "Play," her new music video. From PUFFY to chart-busting, Jennifer talked about how she is dealing with her loca life! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARK STEINES: What's the view like on top of the world? Number one at the box office. Number one on the charts. JENNIFER LOPEZ: Yeah, I know. It's funny, in a few years I'll look back and go, "That was the best thing that ever happened to me in my whole life!" But right now I'm back at work, and it just seems like another day. We had a little celebratory dinner, because the album also went number one on the R&B charts, which was a big deal for us. MARK: Now, was this a goal you set out to accomplish, or was this just one of those things that happens along the way? JENNIFER: No. I make my movies and I make my music, and I just do it because I love it so much. You just keep going, and you get these opportunities and you just keep going at it. Then stuff like that happens, and you think, do you know that you made history yesterday? It just doesn't sink in because you're just a person, so it's weird. Do I make any sense? MARK: No, you're making a whole lot of sense! So, you're up for a Grammy, but you're not going to be there. JENNIFER: That's so crazy when you say stuff like that to me. (laugh) MARK:I know it's sinking in, isn't it? JENNIFER: A little bit. A little bit now. MARK: Everything is great, number one this and number one that, but there's still the other side that's going on in the private life. How do you balance what's going on there and what success you're having? JENNIFER: Well, my personal life and my private life is just that. And I deal with that. And I deal with that myself. I try not to let it too much come into my professional life. It's just like anyone else. You go to your office every day, you have problems when you come home at night. Hopefully you don't, but if you do, you deal with that. MARK: Do you get to share much with Sean (Puffy Combs)? You mentioned you guys celebrated. JENNIFER: No, he wasn't because he's in New York right now. MARK: How did you tell him the news about number one? Or did he know before? JENNIFER: He knew. He sent me a big thing of flowers -- just very supportive and loving. MARK:Tell me about "Play." JENNIFER: "Play" is the second single off of J-LO, the album. We're getting ready to do the video, and we're excited about it. It's kind of this very ... I don't know if I would say futuristic, but this very high-tech kind of jet. It's basically like a party in the air. The song is about going to the club and wanting the DJ to play that one song that will set you off for the whole night. If they play that song, it makes your night, and if they don't, it wasn't as good a night as it could have been. You know what I'm saying? MARK: Oh, I've been there. Do you have a date for the Oscars? JENNIFER: A date for the Oscars (laugh). MARK:Are you going to take Sean? JENNIFER: If he's available. MARK
o you dress him for that? JENNIFER: Oh, he's a designer. He dresses himself. He's got a great fashion sense. He's the best dressed.
