It's a small (40,000 people) dying industrial town, but it's always been my home. What's your town like? Thanks for reading my unicycling story, you made me feel great when you wrote. That story has reached around the world many, many times. I received a letter two years ago from a Chaplain in an Australian prison who requested to use the story to give hope to the prisoners. That 3,300 mile unicycle ride changed my life in many ways. For one, it showed me that I could do anything I set my mind to. More than that though, it gave me something no one can ever take away from me. During the ride I began really believing in myself. It turns out that there are other ways to reach that same result, but I didn't know it at the time. All I needed was to meet other people who were different than me, walk a mile in their shoes and incorporate a bit of them into my thinking (and doing). It was MUCH easier on a unicycle because people would invite me into their lives, rather than me having to actively reach out myself. After the ride ended, I learned that we were all the same... pretty much. Now I'm able to walk up to anyone and start a discussion to learn what makes them special. Pretty great results from a ride that I thought would consist solely of riding thirty miles a day on top of one wheel! Today I'm a Television Producer with arguably the best life on earth. I married the kindest, most exceptional woman anywhere (we went to kindergarten together) and we raised our fascinating and entertaining son from a nine-pound baby to a six-foot tall man that we are so proud of we could pop. It didn't start out that way, though. Life was very confusing for me in high school. I didn't know who I was, so I allowed everyone's opinion of me affect me profoundly. I guess that's the real result of my unicycle ride... confidence. I know for a fact that I can do ANYTHING I set my mind to. So can you. What's life like on your end of the world? I'll bet it's warmer than here. Last week it was -10 degrees Fahrenheit! Ow! Spring and Autumn here are wonderful, so we really make the most of that good weather. The Summers are generally hot and oppressively humid. Before I go, I just want to share this: Do what you love, find a partner who thinks you're cool, help others whenever you can and smile at people you don't know. As for the helping others, you've already done this with me. Your note made me feel like a hero.
