Avi. Safety is all important. I believe that a diver who hasn't dived for a few months, (and the exact amount of time varies from diver to diver), should go to an instructor and have him "check him out" in the water. I do not, however, believe that this should be mandatory by law. It goes back to the old argument, (my favorite one), about "Paternalism." "We shall decide for you how safe you should be, because you're too stupid to know that. We'll protect you from yourself." This bothers me. I believe that divers should take advantage of these dives in order to be safe. I do not agree with the idea that they should be forced to do so by law. A diver who does not feel completely comfortable with the dive he intends to make, is not safe. He should know this and get some instruction. If he can't tell whether or not he is a safe diver, he may be in the wrong hobby. Personal responsibility is the key
