The speech was comica;, endearing and humble, as you would expect Johnny to be. He hugged Whoopi and said he couldn't believe that the award was presented by none other than Whoopi Goldberg, wow! He looked at the award and said, Oh wow, it has my name on it!! He said that he hoped that no one was be alarmed by the fact that he hadn't prepared a speech, meaning it could be 14 seconds or 45 minutes. He then said, he might vomit, or faint or mess himself, it's happened before, but not to him. Before the presentation of the award, they showed a film clip of some of his collectied films, which included edward scissorhands, gilbert grap sam, mort captain jack JM barrie, bon bon , don juan deMarco, icabod crane and I think maybe one or two others. He commented that he had heard it said that alot of his fim choices were weird. He said seeing that film clip, I guess they were! He also admitted to Angela Lansbury that she was an inspiratiuon to his Icabod Crane chararacter, that the producer came to the set and said "Icabod Crane, girl detective"! He then went on to say that he was very hobored and thanked Tracy for staying with him for the last 17 years and all the weirdness and indicated that the award was as much hers. He thanked his sister, whom he said he could not have done it without her, also saying that she had to take some questions on his behalf. HE then thanks the Actors Fund, held up the statue and left the stage."
