Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson are officially divorced. According to court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the divorce is dated 30 June 2006. Simpson's name has been restored to Jessica Simpson from Jessica Simpson Lachey. Publicist Rob Shuter confirmed to American magazine People the couple are officially no longer man and wife. On Thursday (29JUNE06), documents were released in which the couple asked that retired Superior Court Judge Dana Senit Henry be appointed "for the sole purpose of" ending their marriage. They asked the judge to "bifurcate" the case, meaning to make the divorce official without settling all the financial details. Settling the financial details of the divorce has been a sticking point between the couple, soon after Simpson filed for divorce last December (05), Lachey specified that he reserved the right to ask for spousal support, although he has denied in interviews that he is planning to ask for alimony. JESSICA SIMPSON GOES URBAN?

We don't mean to scare you but it looks like Jessica Simpson wants to be the new Mariah Carey. For her next album "A Public Affair", the musical brainwave has enlisted the talents of producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson) and Lester Mendez (Shakira). The first single and title track was written by Johnta Austin, who won a Grammy for Best R&B song of 2006 for Mariah's "We Belong Together". He also wrote "Miss You" for Aaliyah and "Just Be A Man (About It)" for Toni Braxton. A video for the song was filmed last week in LA with director Brett Ratner (X-Men). The star-studded clip will feature guest appearances from Andy Dick, Christina Applegate, Ryan Seacrest and Christina Milian.
