Hi guys, Sorry for the English, I don't have Hebrew on my keyboard. I'm Israeli but I'm traveling at the moment, I always wanted to have a skippers license so I could take a Yacht and sale around, I mean international waters and such, real sailing. I understand that there is "Meshit 30" which is for sailing next to shore and then "Meshit 60" for international waters. Is this an international system or just the Israeli certificate system? Where do I read more about the rules and how does the licensing process works? Also, I will be traveling to Australia in a few weeks and I was thinking about doing the course there Would you recommend doing the course in Israel or abroad? Any recommendations? Thanks

Is Meshit 30 enough for this?

With "Meshit 30" can I rent a catamaran for example in Croatia and travel with it to Greece and then back ? Is Meshit 30 enough for that? If so, maybe that's all I'm looking for, at least for starters. Thanks

Shortest Meshit 30 course

Hello again, last question: Where / how can I do the shortest Meshit 30 course? I mean intensive full time course from start to finish continuously? I understand it should take about one week? Must it be one on one or are there schools that offer this kind of course? Thanks

אם אתה ספידי גונזאלס אני מעריך כחודשיים-שלושה וזה יהיה רע מאוד, כי דברים מסוג זה דורשים קצת זמן כדי "לחלחל" - לא רק לעבור את הבחינות. 4-6 חודשים יותר ריאלי

ו/או בחופי ישראל והמטרה העיקרית זה שכירות בחו"ל והפלגות בחו"ל בסירה בדגל זר עזוב את ההסמכה הישראלית ולך על הסמכה של ה RYA - ניתנת בהרבה מרכזים ברחבי העולם, בטוח שגם באוסטרליה. יש כמה סוגים של הסמכות - תבדוק מה הדרישה המינימלית של חברות ההשכרה (נדמה לי שזה COASTAL SKIPPER אבל אולי אפילו DAY SKIPPER מספיק).

Yes I see it's only coastal. From what I can understand from this: http://www.rya.org.uk/coursestraining/professional/Pages/Whereyoucanwork.aspx It looks like Meshit 60 would be RYA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate of competence but it's not a course that you pass somewhere but just a certificate that you get after passing an exam... is that correct? Would RYA be the most accepted certificate worldwide? And because I'm new to this, 20 miles coastal is really enough for a beginner, I'll be able to take boats all around the Med, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Spain etc... this is what I'm looking for, correct? Is there anybody here who does a lot of sailing in the Med and charter boats who can comment on this? Thanks guys

And wait... Day Skipper is like Meshit 30 or Coastal Skipper is like Meshit 30 ? What's the difference? This is really confusing for someone who doesn't know anything about this and those guys are really not clear about these things.

basically it's just certificates

OK, I'm trying to understand this... basically what you need to get is certificates and you don't really need to do a course for any of them, you just need to pass an exam for each level. Each certificate is more advanced and requires more theory and more "log book" hours or experience but basically there are no RYA Yachtmaster Ocean courses or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore it's just qualifications that I would be able to reach at some point after such and such hours at sea and pass an exam. A Coastal Skipper is basically the most advanced actual course that I could find... above that level it's just exams. Is that correct or am I missing something?

בין ההסמכות של RYA לדרישות בישראל, להסמכה של RYA במילא אין כל תוקף בארץ - אם תחליט בשלב כלשהוא שאתה רוצה להפליג בארץ או על כלי בדגל ישראלי תצטרך לעשות כאן רשיון 30 ו 60. תעשה הרגע מה שאתה חייב בשביל לכסות את דרישות חברות ההשכרה ותתחיל להפליג. אם ימצא חן בעיניך תמשיך להתקדם בסולם ההסמכות של ה RYA (אם זכור לי נכון יש להם כ 5 רמות עד הרמה הגבוהה של מדריך OFFSHORE). ללא קשר אם RYA או ישראלי, הסמכה זו רק הסמכה - מומלץ בשלב ראשון להפליג עם מישהו עם נסיון או בפלוטילה. שעות ים ועבודה עם אנשים בעלי נסיון יתנו לך יותר מכל הסמכה.

found info about Croatia

Hey guys, Just that you know I just checked in Croatia, they do accept our Israeli license: http://www.mmpi.hr/UserDocsImages/TABLICA ENGLISHMoU (2) 3_11.pdf It's right there together with 142 other certificates that they accept. I'm just trying to figure out which license would be best for me, if I can do Meshit 30 and it's valid in Israel but also elsewhere that would be best. As for Europe do you know if our license is accepted in Italy, Greece, Spain and France? I think it goes according to local laws, not just according to the charter office..... VHF-licence is mandatory too in Croatia. Would be cool for you guys to make a document and put in there all the countries where our Israeli license is valid... could save a lot of work to many people I don't understand, isn't it very popular for Israelis to travel to Europe and charter boats to island hope? I would think many people would do it, but from the reaction here it feels like it's something that not many people do..... Thanks again guys, I'm starting to understand this whole business
