If your Pocket PC is lost or stolen, all is not lost... provided you've made a backup using ActiveSync. However, for this to work, you'll have to replace the lost or stolen device with the same model. When you get the replacement Pocket PC don't install anything until after you've completed the following procedure: Connect your replacement Pocket PC to your desktop with the cradle. ActiveSync will automatically start and you'll be asked whether you want to create a "Standard partnership" or a "Guest Partnership." You want to select "Guest" and tap [Next]. The Guest partnership will be started and the normal ActiveSync window displayed. Immediately click on the Tools menu and select Backup/Restore... When the Backup/Restore window appears, click on the Restore tab and then click on the [Restore now] button. You'll get a list of all of the Pocket PC partnerships you've created with your desktop. Select the one for the lost/stolen Pocket PC and click [OK]. You'll get one final warning that this will erase everything on the Pocket PC. Click [OK] and the Restore process will begin. When the Restore is complete, remove your Pocket PC from the cradle and do a soft-reset. The Pocket PC will start up again, this time functioning just like your lost/stolen one, including being able to use any partnerships you've created. You should immediately return the Pocket PC to the cradle to synchronize to restore any data that you created after the backup. When you do this, you'll get a dialog asking if you want to "Combine" or "Replace" the data on your Pocket PC. Select the option to replace the Pocket PC's data with that on the desktop.
