Dear Ms. L.: After careful investigation, and confirmation of the medical examiner´s identification of your beloved husband, the Beth Din of America has concluded that as a matter of Jewish law, S. L. died on September 11, 2001 corresponding to the 23rd day of Elul on the Jewish calendar. As a result of the Beth Din´s determination, you are permitted to remarry according to Jewish law and have the status of a widow. You should be aware that there are certain Jewish law guidelines regarding how much time must lapse before the mother of an infant child is permitted to remarry .It is therefore possible that you will need to obtain special permission to remarry if 24 Hebrew calendar months have not yet elapsed from the birth of your child. If necessary, you can consult with either the Beth Din of America or with your local Rabbi with respect to this issue. אני
