What you wrote about Ro, I often discuss with friends here. Most my friends are "international", they all "fleed" different countries and ended up in the US. Often people who are miles and miles away from where they grew up are so far for a good reason. Not everyone is aware of it initially (and of course there are always exeptions). I guess for me it's about finding a balance, making sure that the visits are in the right length like you mentioned.. I say everything happens for a reason, and maybe, just maybe, reconnecting in samll doses, making sure you stay centered in the process..might not be so bad. If the חנק takes over though, step away, don't forget to breath.. About the consulate, maybe going with someone close, would feel less overwhelming.

As for the consulate: who would I want to inflict that on?

A funny experience

I once went to the Israeli consulate in Boston to get a passport cause I lost mine (!) and this funny Israeli scene happend right in front of me. A woman walks in, goes to the דלפק, ofcourse there is no privacy and everybody hears what she says..She is trying to explain to the woman clirk that she "married" her partner in civil union in Vermont, and they are changing their last name, and she needs it changed on the passport..Ofcourse the clirk is staring at the document form Vermont saying, what is this? what is this? and she doesn't get the whole gay thing..and then walks in a new person, and looks at the gay woman with the document, and they seem shocked for a moment, and it turns out they both grew up in the same Kibutz and they haven't seen each other over 30 years..ha ha..the small world.. Anyways..it's not to scare you or anything, just to make you laugh.

../images/Emo6.gif They don't scare me

You know the six degrees of separation thing? In Israel it never gets beyond 2...
