חחברים יקרים

Dear friends, This letter is addressed to those among you, the lucky ones who understood already that in order to ``change the world`` one has first to change himself. But, in that respect many are confronted with the delicate but quite important dilemma of finding the right teaching. Obviously, in order to change oneself one has to have the right knowledge or to work with someone who know one`s self. But first let`s consider what we understand by the expression ```to know oneself`` ? What is it this ``self`` that we think we should change or improve? Is this self my body or maybe my mind with all my fancy personality and my juicy dreams and desires, or perhaps it is something else altogether... Here lies the catch and quite a serious one. Without knowing what we are looking for and not suspecting ever what is one real identity, we are easily falling prey to ``teachers`` who only pretend knowing themselves, ask them first who they think they really are before you start being misled. Ego, the chief monkey has unlimited disguises but is not the self. With love, to be continued. בברכה אדוואיטה ישראל

WHO AM I?B-()

Its easy to forget the ego mind is just another sense organ having thoughts as its object and identify with its contents. When we smell a rose we don`t say we are that smell. The sound of a bird does not make us believe we are one. But the thoughts about ourselves we do believe. We say ``I am a body``, ``I am old``, ``I am alive``, ``I am a parent`` and hardly stop to question these ``I am`` thoughts. The Course reminds us that the thoughts we think we think are not real and obscure the real thoughts we think with God. Our real thoughts are located in our right mind, the mind of the Holy Spirit. These are the thoughts of love, peace, joy etc. Ego thoughts are based around the concept of a separate ``I`` which thinks good and bad thoughts. However, the Course informs us that both good and bad thoughts obscure spiritual vision. These incessant thoughts of our ego mind are a very effective block to the awareness of the Holy Spirit in our right mind, which requires us to be quiet to hear Him.
