החלטתי שעדיף להעתיק לפה את ההודעה מאשר להתחיל לתרגם All good things must come to an end. And so it is with Kansas. On August 24, Kansas will be shutting its doors. I am very proud of Kansas and its place in the Farscape fandom, but it is time for me to move on. I had made a promise to myself that when the money ran out after the first call for donations three years ago, I would shut the board down. That time has come--this last month is on me. There are a few other reasons that cemented my decision to go through with this. One major catalyst was the lack of support coming from BoardNation the last few months. I hope they will be back on top of things in the future because I have the utmost admiration for the team there. I have to say that without BoardNation, Kansas would never have gotten this big with so very few problems. I think the world of the staff there--David especially--but I can't run this board without them and the lack of response to multiple communications about the problems people were having connecting to Kansas (which have been fixed, by the way) was not like them and made me realize that I just don't have enough control over what goes on behind the scenes, which doesn't make me a very effective owner/administrator. Running a forum can be an enormous task, and without that back end support, it becomes a rather onerous task at that. The other, and hands-down most important reason, is that I need to devote more time to my family. My husband recently returned after a year in Iraq, and being a family again is paramount in my life. My kids will only be small once-- they'll be off to school before I know it. The likelyhood of future deployments is there and having the opportunity to actually be a "normal" family for any amount of time is precious to me. I'm going to take it while it's here. I'd like to thank so many people for helping shape Kansas into what it is today. I most definitely could not have done this without my admins and mods over the last 3 years. So thanks to Imloco2 (who is actually to blame for Kansas--xoxoxox to you!!!), PKAT (where ever you are, my old compadre!), Kernil Crash (for picking up the pieces and slack when I really needed someone), Scrubschick (miss you like crazy, I do!), AFD (you are far more awesome than you realize), PKLibrarian (for taking on what can only be classified as a Big Frelling Job with dedication and determination), LithiumDoll (for helping the Clamshell become so informative), the Erasernator (not just for being up when the rest of us aren't, but for her speed too! heehee!!), and last but definitely not least, my wondertwin, Cretkid (who really does rock! And provides hours of snarky entertainment...). If I've missed anyone--well, I suck. Sorry. I owe you all more than I can express and appreciate your help, judgement, patience, and enthusiasm for the work. You guys are aces and there isn't enough chocolate kisses in the world to pay you! I'll always be in your debt. Of course, I need to give my thanks to so many of you fellow Kansans, for coming here to laugh, make friends, discuss Farscape, read fic, talk videos, and share your lives. I am quite proud of this community for how friendly and generous they have always been. Kansas is unique because of all of you--and we all know unique is valuable. But this community hardly needs Kansas to stay together. Staying a community is just a matter of wanting to and then making the effort. In that vein, several Kansans have gotten together to create a board for all of you here to move to if you so desire. Terra Firma (http://terrafirmascapers.com) will be better than Kansas in no time and you'll find that due to the fact that it is administered by Crash and Loco (who both have ample experience modding here) and some other of your favorite Kansans, it will share much of the same sensibilities and basic tenets as Kansas. All they need is you. Now, I'm hardly leaving the fandom. I'm just going back to my lurking roots...mostly. I suppose I couldn't be pried out with a shoehorn. Farscape is the first fandom I ever dabbled in so...publically, and I'm not done yet! My dream for Scaperoute--my first foray into this community of creative people--has always been to provide a resource, inspiration, and a showcase for all the best work Scapers do. I am in the midst of updating ScapeRoute after about 4 years of it being dormant. With the campaign, this board, and general life events, ScapeRoute has been horribly neglected much to my dismay. I am working on a redesign right now, and Cretkid and I (along with some of our friends) have opened up a fiction archive for quality Farscape fic, and an art gallery will be following along in about a week or so. You can get to the fic archive via http://unrealizedrealities.scaperoute.com/unrealizedrealities/index.php We hope you'll stop by and share your work there. During the next month or so, please be sure to copy any interesting threads, fic, video announcements, or general information to your hard drives that you want to keep. Kansas will not be archived someplace else. Once the board goes, so does everything in it. There are some really wonderful posts here that really shouldn't be lost if possible. You have until the end of the day on August 23rd. After that, I really won't be able to find old threads, stories or info. For those of you who have your fic archived on Kansas and nowhere else, please please please go copy it now into text files of your own and back them up. PLEASE NOTE: The Fic section (Unrealized Realities) will be locked up tomorrow morning, July 13th, to new posts (doesn't matter if it is a WIP or a completed story). You will be able to modify your own posts (so you can copy your stories), but not leave feedback or post anything new. Expect to see this message in an email I'm sending to the entire membership in the next couple of days. With any luck I'll be able to send it just once and not 7 times. I just want to make sure that people who haven't been here for a while have the information and won't be surprised later if they show up and the party has moved on. Thanks again. אבל הנקודה שלי היתה שכבר השתמשו בו בסדרת מד"ב אחת - סטאר טרק. ואם סוגרים פורום של פארסקייפ, אז מן הראוי לצטט משהו משם.
