The bacteria are not in the milk
don't forget that in the milk there are cells that destroy bacteria!! Usually a plugged duct is where there is some milk that is not moving. It starts to produce material that sends a message to your body's immune system and that causes you to have fever, and gives you a message to act. If you remove the milk or get it flowing, you won't even have an infection.........but rather inflammation. If you have fever for more than 24 hours, then infection is setting in and this is when you have to take antibiotic. There are no cases in teh literature of babies being infected when the mother has a breast infection. The only time we worry is when the mother has the infection on both sides........this could be streptococcus, and in that case it is not recommended to breastfeed the baby. Maybe Dr. Leibovitch could give you a better medical explanation.
