"Musical Wednesdays" at the Athens Concert Hall 2004-2005 On "Musical Wednesdays at Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall" the audience has the unique chance to enjoy distinguished Greek soloists who lead a brilliant career abroad. The pianists Tassos Pappas, Charis Dimaras, Evangellos Sarafianos, Domna Evnouchidou, Elisabeth Kounalaki and Chara Iakovidou, the flutist Stella Gadedi, the soprano Jenny Drivala accompanied by Christos Papageorgiou in piano, the soloist in cembalo Katerina Ktona, the guitarist Elena Papandreou with the violoncellist Leonid Gorokhov, as well as the bass/baritone Christoforos Stamboglis with Stavros Lantsias in piano, are this year's guests in the Athens Concert Hall's notable thematic unit. 2. "Rising Stars" at the Athens Concert Hall 2004-2005 The mezzo soprano Tania Κross, the Esart Trio Berlin, the clarinettist Nicolas Baldeyrou, the soprano Genia Kuehmeier, the guitarist Denis SungHo and the Daedalus Quartet are this year's "Rising Stars" that unfold their talent at the Athens Concert Hall. The series is an initiative by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), which with support of the European Commission, gathers the most important concert organizers and aims at bringing about international partnerships. 3. "20th & 21st century music" at the Athens Concert Hall 2004-2005 On contemporary music composed by Greek and foreign creators is focused the "20th & 21st century music" cycle at the Athens Concert Hall. Under the artistic direction of the eminent Greek musician Theodore Antoniou, many works are performed in world's premiere as well as compositions which are little known to the Greek audience. This year two tributes have been scheduled as part of the Cycle: one is dedicated to the centenary from Nikos Skalkottas' birth (1904-1949) and the other to the fifty years since Charles Ives' (874-1954) death. 4. October of concerts at Athens' Small Music Theater Twenty-four nights with jazz, rock, hip-hop, fusion, improvisations, be-bop, funk, swing have been programmed fro the month of October by the Small Music Theatre of Athens. Well-known names of the alternative music scene present their program on the Small Music Theatre's stage and invite all those interested in a different proposal to have fun with the most avant-garde and creative sounds that can be heard in town. The mezzo soprano Tania Kross "rises" at the Athens Concert Hall The song recital by the mezzo soprano Tania Κross opens this year's cycle "Rising Stars" at the Athens Concert Hall. Accompanied by the soloist in piano Ernst Munneke, Kross has been invited by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), which with support of the European Commission presents young, talented artists in significant venues in all around the world. On October 18 Kross interpretes a wide repertoire that highlights her talent to perform songs from different composers and eras in music. are this year's "Rising Stars" that unfold their talent at the Athens Concert Hall. The series is an initiative by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), which with support of the European Commission, gathers the most important concert organizers and aims at bringing about international partnerships. 6. The pianist Tassos Pappas and the magic of the Romantic era Tassos Pappas' recital at Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall on October 20, is dedicated to three of the most popular works of the Romantic era. The multi-awarded soloist's repertoire includes masterpieces that have been composed by Franz Liszt, Frederic Chopin and Modest Mussorgsky and demand excellence in performance. The event forms part of the series "Musical Wednesdays" at the Athens Concert Hall. 7. Half Note Jazz Club 2004-2005: World music in a hang-out of Athens Jazz, acid jazz, blue jazz, soul, funk, rhythm'n'blues, gypsy music. All music cultures have found their place in this year's programme at Half Note Jazz Club. Famous bands and artists whose names are written with bold letters in the history of music, give a 7-day appointment at the only music stage-hang-out in Athens, where both the audience and the musicians become... friends at the end of the night. Pianist Nicholas Zumbro in a tribute to the American composer Charles Ives The distinguished American pianist Nicholas Zumbro is an authority on the music of Charles Ives. He has long been regarded as an inspired interpreter who has for many years championed Ives's extraordinarily complex and challenging Concorde Sonata. To mark the anniversary of the fifty years since Ives' (1874-1954) death, Zumbro appears in a piano recital-tribute to the great American composed at the Athens Concert Hall on 10/22. He also performs works by Alberto Ginastera and Enrique Granados. 10. "Sunday Morning" with Britten, Elgar, Vivaldi andι Holst and the Camerata under Christopher Warren Green Accompanied by the violinists Sergiu Nastasa και Liou Jing, the Camerata - Orchestra of the Friends of Music inaugurates this year's educational series "Sunday Morning at the Athens Concert Hall" welcoming at the podium its new Principal Conductor, Christopher Warren Green. On October 17 the Orchestra interpretes masterpieces by Benjamin Britten, Edward Elgar, Antonio Vivaldi and Gustav Holst. The introduction and the presentation of the works is by the musician Efi Minakouli.
