Does women write songs better than men? S - Men like to measure themselves with violent and tormented music. It´s women´s duty to write introspective songs. In this, yes, we are superior. A - We women love to explore soul´s devils more than men could love to do. Self-analysis is a kind of obsession that can lead you to write great songs. What are the disadvantages of your work being a woman? S - You stay there on the stage playing, while people thinks to something else. Few times ago I opened a Bob Dylan concert and a man kept on screaming: "Let us see your breast!" A - A man can do everything he wants. if a woman dares to express herself in a strong and free way, she is considered a bitch. How do you feel playing the role an angry woman? S - Not comfortable. I don´t think I am angry. More than angry, a sane cinism moves me. A - That´s a label I don´t recognize myself with. When you are famous, people thinks about you in a uni-dimensional way. But a song or an interview can´t be enough to define a person. Do you feel sexy? S - Mmmm... I can tell you that I don´t like to use sex to sell records. Nowadays female pop singers have become almost pornostar. Your talent is no more considered, but the centimeters of skin that you are disposed to show on tv. A - The only fact of being a celebrity makes you more sexy, but it´s a mechanism that I have never understood. Sex is important, this is true. A - There are many: Joni Mitchell, Bjork, Annie Lennox, Tori Amos. I love in general every artist that freely express herself. Who are your idols? S - Free, rebel, heroic and mysterious spirits, men capable to live a life without obstacles, to give a sense to the american dream. Just like Steve McQueen. A - Whomever does my job with passion and honesty. Whomever makes music just because he/she feels the need of doing it, not for money. A remembrance of your beginnings. S - I was a chorist for Micheal Jackson. On the stage I had to follow complicated choreographics in a too tight and microscopic dress and in a precarious position in my 10 centimeters pin heels. A degrading experience, but the alternative was being a waitress... A - Before "Jagged Little Pill" I was an unsecure and repressed teenager. I couldn´t be sincere. My songs were fictions, not reality. Have you ever thought of leaving everything? S - Yes, cause of the depression that hit me cyclically. Last year was particulary high. I was discouraged. I looked around and I couldn´t recognize myself in what was happening in the world of music. I was doing the same end of Mariah Carey. Then I understood that music doesn´t have to be a work, but a passion. A - After Jagged Little Pill Tour I was exaust. I made a list of things that I would have liked to do, place I would have liked to visit and I imposed myself not to return to sing until I wouldn´t have done all those things. Have you ever been in theraphy? S - Sure I have been! I´m sure that with the money earned by me, my analyst payed his six sons´ college! A - Yes, and also because the human psyche exploration always attacted me. You are jelous of your privacy, but you write autobiographical songs. Is it a contradiction? S - I don´t think so. I know that people is curious and want to know who i dedicated this or that song to, but my ex guys are all alive and I love them all. But how the hell can Courtney Love tell the press about every fuck of hers? A - Writing honest and clear songs doesn´t allow me to involve publically the persons that have been next to me. Hve you ever been with a wrong boyfriend? S - As anyone. Many years ago I was engaged with a really catholic boy. One day he said to me: "Don´t think to marry me in front of God and then go around with a rock band!". I ran away from Los Angeles... A - Unfortunately yes, more than once. Because of my strong personality, I attract men that tend to depend on me. Have you any little mania? S - Arrangement and cleanness.
