It's really hard to write everything correctly when the emoticons are in hebrew. Anyway, I think tapuz are disobeying the forum regulations, they write in hebrew. Have a good one, and alays remember I'm the first forum member

Welcome! ../images/Emo24.gif

For quite a while, as the mod of the `regular' English forum (#740), I've been concerned about the use of the langauge there. The exclusive use of English could not be imposed on the forum: as the language is taught in schools throughout the country, it is only natural that students of it would have questions. And if they have questions, it makes sense that they should ask them (and expect answers) in a language they feel more comfortable with---Hebrew. Ideally, newcomers would stay and gradually use more English, but very few of those asking for help have chosen to stay and learn. English, then, couldn't really become an official language in the forum. By setting up this forum, Gaily and I hope to provide a solution to the problem. The existing forum became dedicated to learners of the English language who prefer to use Hebrew; its moderation will be replaced soon to reflect the new purpose. This forum shall be devoted to the English language itself. This is definitely not to say that learners will be excluded, but they will be required to write in English. We believe that this will only help them improve, even if it proves difficult at first. Just don't be afraid of making mistakes. You are welcome to discuss just about anything---grammar, literature, Americanisms, Britishisms and even current events (with not too much politics!) or maths---as long as you do so in English. Have fun!
Yuval, in Gaily's name too.

That's the spirit!

I remember the good times of the previous forum (about a year ago?) when the "reform" (so to speak) was most successful. We've discussed mainly in English and had a lot of good thread (why, as a matter of fact we've started to use the word 'thread' back then) concerning the English language. Some of the very best members of the forum was: yuval (the manager), MoonGoddes, Ran88 and of course DancingWithSnails who still doing great work helping all those students. Well, that was a great time and I realize (same as you) that now it could hardly be restored. So a reform is what we need - so big 'till we actually do need a new forum for the English language, a "clean" forum with "Pure-English" intentions and we got one. Thank you Yuval and Gaily
So should I write the word of the day here from now on? - should we have a special place for it? Gaily! what "set theory" you'll get... how did you manage to keep it secret?
My sincere regards

Hi

I only have one comment - please please please make sure you adjust the text to the left. It's really annoying to read English when it's adjusted to the right. If it's a forum where the language is exclusively English it should read like one.

What I had in mind

I do not think this forum should develop as similar to the other one. The idea is for it to be a place where discussions can take place but in a different language, rather than a place where people can come and just ask questions about grammar or phrasing or translation (and not even bother to use English). This might mean the forum is going to be something like an off-topic forum that's all on-topic (because of the language used). I will be surprised if anything else happens in fact. So, on the whole, nothing `serious' is planned---mostly socialisation---as well as more `relevant' discussions (for example, about books we're reading etc.), which I'd be glad to see.

The problem is...

with your computer
You should view the forum through this link and not through Tapuz.
Good to see you,

Left alignment

The JAfI interface solves this problem. I just thought that if the forum is to be in English only, there shouldn't be any problem with using that interface (in other forums, I always align to the left when I write in English). Until the links are added to the left sidebar here, the tagline will point to that version. Sorry for not aligning my message before...

About That... ../images/Emo110.gif

Is there any way that I can add the JAFI page to "my favorites forums"? or just the regular Tapuz page...? because it is annoying reading English from the right, and I know I won't come here if I'm gonna have to get to the JAFI page from my Explorer favorits.

There should be a link

on the left-hand side of the page. For now, it's the tagline. What I have is a favourite-link bar that directly links me to the JAfI version... I find it very convenient.

!good on Ya, mate

A few points, if it pleases the assembly: 1) Yaaaaay! 2) Bugger, I'll have to start aligning to the left. I wonder how one goes about doing it? 3) What is the forum policy regarding corrections? Do we correct each other's errors: automatically? only when specifically asked to? Never? Only in very painful cases? When we feel particularly mean towards the corrected party? etc. Your opinions, my lords and ladies. 4) Strewth, another forum I'll have to check daily. 5) My correct name, master Ferma, is of course "Dances with Snails", and should I be addressed by you in any other manner, it shall be pistols at sunrise. You have been warned.
