WAKABA - Japanese in London
The A La Cart is quite pricy but on weekdays they have a Japanese all you can eat lunch buffet for £6.99 only (worth every penny). The buffet is impressively rich. Small selection of basic sushi (but with this price one can afford to add sushi from the menu), tempura vegetables, Japanese curry dishes, misu soup, noodles (hot or cold), pork, chicken, fish. I know very little about Japanese cuisine so I took my friend Yoko with for a quick lesson. Lunch offer ends at 14:30 so should come early enough to enjoy it. Learned: 1) Japanese have their own curry (went to a Japanese shop not far from there and got me some seaweed and curry blocks) 2) The Japamese place their chopsticks between the plate and themselves as oppose to Chinese – right of plate. 3) Learned how to make chop sticks stand from their paper cover. Enjoyed it, very different from the regular oriental experiences I’ve had in the west and lets you taste all different flavours. Cost a total of £17 for two persons including hot sake, fizzy water and service charge. Wakaba – just opposite Finchley Rd. station (Jubilee and metropolitan line).
