sleeping problems - to all ?

it seems that all babies have sleeping problems. how come ? for a 11-month baby - how many hours a day she should sleep ? how should it be divided between day and night ? currently she sleeps 2 hours at noon and around 7-8 hours at night (with breaks) (I breast feed her) but she is tired most of the time and cannot fall asleep becasue she tries to stand in the bed all the time (she just started standing so it is exiting for her) Does it cause her harm if she doesn't sleep enough? sometimes she plays in bed and after 15-30 minutes she falls asleep. is it good ? from what age can I start the 5 minutes method ? if I cannot do that - is there additional method ? thanks!

Not all babies have sleep problems. It is estimated that 20-30 percent of the babies have sleep problems. From your description it does seem that your baby is not getting enough sleep and it does affect her waking behavior. If you baby is healthy you can start the 5-minute method. This method is effective from the early months but usually recommended after 6 months of age. You can read about other methods in my book "Sleeping like a baby" published by Yale University Press
