One Ring Celebration

Billy came on first and talked a while then had a Q&A session. He's a happy, entertaining person. I'll write more about him and Dom later. It's a little tricky because I want to get right to Elijah, but some things make more sense if I first talk about Dom and Billy. But I'm going to skip right to Sean and Elijah. They came out and bantered with one another for quite a while. Sean was wearing a hat and had a beard and was wearing glasses. Elijah commented on the fact that Sean was wearing glasses and said he thought they looked good. Sean removed his hat so everyone could get a better look at his glasses. I think Sean was a little bothered that he had to wear them. At first they sat on stools and talked, but Elijah finally said, "Why don't we get rid of these stools? Billy stood up and I feel like we're wimps for sitting." So Elijah stood up but Sean found some little stool that spun around and sat on it. He spun a few times and then let Elijah sit on it and spun around. Elijah said he had noticed that there were a lot of women at ORC. He said, "I think I've seen four men here." (In fact there were more than 4, but there were far more women than men.) He said when they were making LOTR there was concern that they needed to add something that would attract women because they thought it would have a largely male audience. But he said obviously women saw something in it too. In each of the sessions with Dom and Billy they had been given the question "boxers or briefs"? Dom said "nothing", Billy said "boxers". I don't recall if Sean answered that question, but I know Elijah didn't (but we all know he wears boxers anyway). So Sean starts talking about Orlando Bloom and his success. He said that obviously to be very popular one must have some sort of reference to underwear in their name. So they decide to make up names for themselves that would have a reference to that. Sean came up with "Sean Pantaloon". Then he dubs Elijah "his briefness Elijah" or "Speedo Elijah" or "Love pants". Sean then said "Billy told us we should talk about him when we got up here." Elijah then said, "Billy's the best". Elijah: "It's been a long time Sean. (Meaning a long time since he'd seen him.) You've been all over the world and in New Zealand for 3 months." Sean then queried the audience to see if they knew why he was in NZ for 3 months, and we all said for "Hercules". They start talking about TORN (theonering.net) and how they owe a debt to TORN for all the publicity they get through them. They said they go to the website and look at it frequently. Sean said "I selfishly use that as a psychological carrot" and then he rambles on for a long time. Elijah listens and then says, "Where are you going with this?" Some girl in the audience screamed "I read your book Sean!" Then Elijah says in an amused tone, "So did I Sean." They would take little jabs at one another every now and then. It was suppose to be humorous, and it was. Elijah said about TORN, "I find myself going there on occasion to catch up and see what everyone else is doing. It's like a way to keep in touch." Sean says, "I like Cliff". (Cliff is one of TORN's main guys.) Question and answers: Question: "Door X Triangle". Now, this refers back to when Dom was there. He said when Billy, Dom, and Elijah get here, ask them about Door, X, Triangle and they'll find it funny. So when Billy was on he was asked about it but he wouldn't tell us what it was. When Elijah and Sean were asked about it, Elijah said, "Over the holidays we rented a house for a big group of friends on Kauai (and island in the State of Hawaii). The "Door" referred to the screen door. They had to keep it closed because there are a lot of insects there. So anytime someone came in and didn't close it, everyone would say "Door". The "X" referred to a process of using a Playstation. (I didn't understand this part because I don't play games at all.) The "triangle" had something to do with someone named Nigel who would get on the roof. For some reason they'd say "triangle" whenever Nigel got on the roof. So that was sort of what he had to say about it. The humor in that totally escaped me. If any of you reading this were there and want to elaborate on that for me so I understand it, please do so. I'm thinking it you had to have been there in the house over the holidays for this to seem amusing. Question: PJ built a hobbit hole. Have you stayed there? Elijah: I haven't been asked. He built Bag End underground with a tunnel that runs from the hobbit hole to the main house. Sean: I'll show up with a pair of shears and trim the grass. (Oh Samwise!) Question: When was the last time you played "tig"? Elijah: When we were in NZ they kept having me play tig and I would get so confused because the rules kept changing. Then after about six months the others revealed that the whole thing was a joke. (Then there was some talk about tig and elephant, double tig, tag. I hope this makes sense to you, but it didn't to me.)

Question: Do you ever get tired of being famous? Elijah: I didn't sign up for being famous. I don't like losing my anonymity. I like to keep my private life private. Sean: So if you ever seen Elijah on the street, look the other way. Elijah: I do appreciate the privileges I get from it (being famous). Question: Most embarrassing moment? (Ok, this is the one we've ALL been talking about. If you haven't read about this yet, hold onto your hats!) Elijah: When I was in the hospital after my appendix burst was my most embarrassing moment. When your appendix bursts, it shuts down your system. Then you have to stay there until you "poo" or "pass gas". A nurse tried to help the process and said, "Elijah, I have something here to help you." She had a suppository and asked me "Do you want me to do it or should you do it?" She was attractive so I had her do it. And I didn't really want to put anything up my bum. So after the suppository was applied it set off a flame inside me. It was like Mt. Doom inside. And I ended up pooing myself. After you've been in a hospital for a long time, you lose all dignity." _________________ Ok, change of subject. Sean asked if TORN donates to any charities. One of the TORN guys came up and mentioned some the charities the fans have donated to over the years. The Tolkien Forever Yahoo group rep said they were taking a collection to give money to the Red Cross for disaster relief. Sean challenged everyone to donate at least $1 to it, and he donated $100. (They raised almost $2,000 for this purpose mostly as result of Sean's challenge.) Question: I didn't get this question very well, but it was something about why he did Marilyn Hodgkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School (I've never heard of this.) Sean: I did it as a homage to my wife. I love ballroom dancing. Elijah: I don't know how to ballroom dance. Sean: I'll show you. (Then they danced around a little together. Looked to me like Elijah knew what he was doing.) Question: Sean, have you done any USO work? Sean said basically `no' and that he thinks the military guys would prefer seeing girls. "I'm going to Kentucky and visiting with soldiers next week. I get a lot out of it." He rambled on about this topic, but I didn't catch it all. Question: How do you manage all the ladies who throw themselves at you? Elijah: Oh—I don't know how to answer that. (He thinks a bit.) I politely appreciate their affections. Question: Elijah, I loved you on SNL (big cheer from audience). I loved how you can create new scenes like that. Would you like to do more comedy? Elijah: I'd love to do more comedy. I was terrified doing that but the group I worked with was great, and I learned a lot doing Saturday Night Live. Question: Elijah, are you going to do "Ian Curtis"? Elijah: I don't know; I'd love to. There's no director yet. I haven't read a script. But I'd love to do it. It would be big shoes to fill. Question: Did you take any props from LOTR? Sean: I got Sam's backpack, sword, feet and a photo of Sam and Eleanor. Alexandria got her costume. Elijah: I wanted to take a photo that hung over the mantel at Bag End. It did not get it though. I got hobbit feet, Sting, ears. (Then the audience yelled "The Ring!") Oh yeah, and the Ring. Sean: The ring is very handy when you go through customs because you can put it on and disappear and walk right through. Question: What inspired you to go into film? Sean: My parents were in films. My mother had surgery a couple of months ago and is doing well now. She called me this morning and was yelling at me, so she must be doing well. Being raised in that environment, I wanted to go there too. I've really enjoyed the fraternity of actors. You feel like you're part of a sacred tradition. Elijah: I didn't aspire to be an actor when I was young. I lived in Iowa until I was about 7 years old. I had tons of energy and Mom thought I'd be good in commercials. We moved to California, and I did commercials and loved it. Later I wanted to do films. I feel like I've been in film school for 15 years. Question: When you have to do a retake of a scene, how do you get ready for the second and subsequent takes? Elijah: You don't allow yourself to get out of a place you put yourself in. You stay in it until you've got the scene finished. Sean: Don't be in your head and analytical about it. You have to be in the moment and find that place and exist in it. (Sean went on quite a while, but I didn't catch it all.) Question: How did you influence each other as actors? Elijah: I don't think we've gotten that question before. I think in a way we helped in that we personally supported one another through a difficult journey. That and the closeness informed the relationship on the screen. Sean: I was a fan of Elijah's work for years, and I didn't understand why I couldn't be that good. I appreciated Elijah's talent. He influenced me, and a primary reason I wanted to be in LOTR was so I could work with Elijah. There are many other reasons. Elijah is a real professional and once during pickups I was late. Elijah said "Whoa! You're unprofessional!" That was one way he influenced me. Elijah: We did that all the time. We pushed each other. The Mt. Doom scene where Sam does the Shire speech was important to both of us. Elijah: Oh, they're telling us it's time to stop. I feel sort of bad because we took up so much of the time and so many people are still waiting to ask questions. With that, they were done. _____________________ Some other stuff I missed putting in here: At one point a little girl started crying and Elijah said, "bring her up here". He hugged her for a long time until she stopped crying. (Geez, he so needs to be a dad.) Sean and Elijah (and the rest of us) sang Happy Birthday to two people. Then at some point one of the questioners said it was Elijah's birthday in a few weeks and requested that we sing him Happy Birthday, which we did. He bowed after we were done and thanked us.

מ"מ. בחור מסכן, סיפור ביה"ח נשמע נורא. הבדיחות הפרטיות של ההוביטים באמת מאוד לא ברורות, הבנתי רק את חלק הקשור במשחק הבדוי "טאג", הוא באמת מאוד מבדר (אבל עובד רק בשפה האנגלית), קשה להאמין שאליהו "קנה" את זה לאורך חודשים
