Mariah slams Jackson comments Mariah Carey has countered Michael Jackson’s claims that her ex-husband, Sony boss Tony Mottola, is a racist. The diva has spoken with Mottola since Jackson began criticising the Sony boss in public, calling him ‘a racist’ and ‘a devil.’ Carey has dismissed Jackson’s claims, maintaining that Mottola is ‘anything but a racist.’ A spokeswoman for the diva said: ‘Mariah doesn´t really know how to react to Michael Jackson´s accusations. She was shocked, of course, as we all are. Throughout all the years she has known Tommy, she has never known him to be a racist.’ The spokeswoman added, ‘Mariah does not feel that he is such a person after all the support he had given her. Michael did not have Mariah´s permission or consent to use her in his battle with Sony and did not want any part of it. Mariah feels Michael is wrong and she is rather surprised that he has dragged her into this. She is very upset with him and is not behind him in this at all.’ Jackson’s comments on Carey and Mottola came at his shock announcement that he was leaving Sony in June. At the time Jackson accused the Sony chief of hampering his latest album Invincible. Michael then claimed that Mottola mistreated Mariah. He said: ‘[Mottola] tapes her phones, and he´s very, very evil, she doesn´t trust him. We have to continue our drive until he is terminated.’ Pledging support for Mottola and not Jackson, Carey’s statement continued: ´Mariah has never directly accused Tommy of trying to ruin her career. She does not hate Tommy. She hated the way he had treated her while she was signed with Sony. Mariah does not hold grudges and has decided to leave her dispute with Tommy in the past and move forward.’ Jackson went on to blast the recording industry, and then the media, claiming that their treatment of black artists bordered on racist. Worldpop’s recent opinion poll asked readers: ‘Do you think Sony are to blame for the poor sales of Michael Jackson´s last album, Invincible?’ 75% of readers answered ‘Yes’.
