Murphy is the greatest
Well ,it seems that this year i am going from the one ditch to another. On Saturday morning whilst enrout to Famagusta in splendid weather i heard a crushing noise from the engine and within a second it stopped. i suspected a gear break down, and this is what it was. Against my rules i dived at sea in low swell for inspection just for the sake of good order. Turning the prop by hand i felt that it turns like a sore throat. Well this is it, no gear. We were 28 miles from Fama. Luckilly we had SE light wind and with the main plus drifter we managed our way to the port where we came after dark and tıed up to the old wooden pıer by sails.Obviously this is afew days for repair and my crew mate left for home on Sunday.On Monday i dismantled the gear and on Tuesday i took ıt (by bus) to Kerenya where a good engıneer and work shop are located. The damage is 2 ball bearings are to be replaced and the main turnıng tooth shaft to be remachined. They can do it and in favourable price. Hopefully i,ll be sailing again by Sat or Mond, inshalla. My son will join tomorrow and we hope for a better way back.
