A good latch is the key to breastfeeding. Here is a nice site on how to latch a baby. Look at the animation. This is how your baby should be approaching the breast. what you do not see is that if he is on the left breast, your right hand is on the back of his neck and his belly is tucked in under your right breast. NO PILLOW!! When his chin touches your breast, this makes him open his mouth wide and that is when you pop the breast in his mouth. YOu can even press your left thumb on your breast to move the nipple further away from his mouth and wait for him to open wide, then roll the breast into his mouth, bottom to top. Once he has latched, you can take your left arm and return it to the cradle position.
