interview: Colour coordinated Maroon 5 is a funny name for a band-and while bass player Mickey refused to tell us what it stands for, he did let us in on what some other colours mean to him. Yellow: the colour of cowardice Self Preservation is really an instict of mine, as far as certain types of risks are cocerned. We had a go-cart race for winners of a radio competition and i had this distinct memory of this time i got really hard hit from behind in the car. I was getting sandwitched between karts and getting thumped from behind and I was just like, 'arghhh!' So i slowed down and finished the race at a leisurly pace. That's the last time i've experienced what could be described as cowardice. Pink:the colour of emabarassmentWhat makes me embarassed? I suppose...(Thinks) Nothing? Im sorry, i dont get embarassed. If you were to tell me i had something hanging out of my nose, id laugh along with you! Red:the colour of anger Most things that have been getting me red with anger have been related to the political system back home. This is perhaps the worst administration in the history of our country. I watch CNN and im disgusted by what we're in the process of doing to this world. White:the colour of fear I hate flying and I have to fly alot, which is a drag. When you hit turbulence and when you hit those pockets where the plane drops, it just really terrifies me. I have this belief that flying in an aeroplane is impossible. Its like in cartoons, when the character will run over by the cliff and be running in thin air. I feel like the plane will just fall to the ground. I think its jus sheer willpower that it stays in the air. It just doesnt make sense to me. Its been explained to me, the physics, but i still dont buy it. Blue: The colour of sadness Missing my lady, thats the one thing that definitely will make me blue. Sad movies too. I watched 'Dancer in the Dark' the other night, which ive seen about 4 times, but it never fails to make me cry. Now that i know what happens, i cry in the second scene. Its a musical staring bjork, with her songs in it. Its brutally tragic, in the greek sense its a tragedy. Green: The colour of Envy Im not too envious. After long stretches on the road, i'll talk to friends or family or my girlfriend at home, and if theres some sort of gathering of my nearest and dearest and im not at it, that kinda breaks my heart a little bit, its not exactly envy but its close. Maroon: The colour of... Maroon is the colour of blood, the stuff of life! Why are we called Maroon 5? Well, we call it mar-ooon not marown like you guys. But, i cant tell you why we're called maroon 5. We actually took an oath never to reveal outside the five of us. Sorry, its nothing personal!
