../images/Emo41.gif happy new year & question

my baby is 6 weeks old. very often, when he feeds some of the milk flows out of his lower nostril ( i breastfeed in the classic "cradle" position, when he feeds from the right breast, it flows fron the ). he doesnt "polet"uch otherwise, he's been gainning weight wonderfully and doesnt seem to be bothered by the nose-flow. is it normal, or does it indicate a malformation i should check, or a problem with the feeding? thank you, and happy new year.

You should check that!!

Speak to one of our team in Ichilov who specialize in such problems. You can call shoshi: 052 2220387 Tell her that I referred you, tell her the problem, and she will tell you what you have to do to get an appointment. Please let me know what happens.

update

after the little scare i got (i asked the question expecting you'd say "no worries"...), i consulted a pediatrician. he said it's quite common, usually a result of immaturity of the swallow mechanism. one should make sure there's no "hidden" cleft palate, by palpating the palate for a "hole". if all is well on the exam, it's probably regurgitation from the immaturity described. in that case, as long as the child is gainning weight well, is not coughing up too much and does not suffer from breathing problems or pneumonia, i can just wait and see . if it persists in 3 months, or if it worsens, then it needs a workup., thank you!
