10 items added today: HACKETT, STEVE - LIVE ARCHIVE-03 Recorded during the 2003 `To Wath The Skies` tour all over Europe, this latest addition to the Hackett`s Live Archive series proves again that he is probably one of the most consistently brilliant figures on the Prog scene. The material includes, as usual, some new tunes from the latests albums, as well as some old favorites, performed flawlessly and with passion by Steve and the latest eddition of his band. JOPLIN, JANIS - BOX OF PEARLS This beautiful 5 CDs box includes all the studio material ever recorded by Janis Joplin (2 albums with Big Brother and 2 in her own name) and a plethora of never previously released studio and live tracks as bonus tracks and a bonus EP available only in the limited edition box. Janis was the greatest white female blues singer ever, and her heartbreaking voice and deeply emotional performances are as fresh today as they were at the peak of her tragicaly short career. Absolutely essential! SPIRIT - SPIRIT 1st album from 1968 by this brilliant US Psychedelic band that defined the sound of American Rock in the `70. Mixing elements of Rock, Jazz, Blues and Country with heavily spiced Psychedelic influence, they created some of the most distinctive and ambitious tunes in Rock. They did have a fair success on the charts as well and this album includes their first hit `Fresh-Garbage`. Classic! SPIRIT - THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER 2nd album from 1968. This one includes the hit `I Got A Line On You` and a fantastic collection of well crafted songs. The group found their own sound and direction and continues to produce superb material with no exceptions. Especially interesting is the song `Jewish`, which is based on a traditional Hebrew song. Never a dull moment! SPIRIT - CLEAR SPIRIT 3rd album from 1969. In the tradition established by the 2 previous albums, the band continues to deliver brilliant music in a mixture of styles, this time even touching upon a heavier side of Rock. Their creative powers seem to grow constantly fefining the eclectic mix of outstanding musicianship and creativity. A classic! SPIRIT - TWELVE DREAMS OF DR. SARDONICUS (MILLENIUM EDITION) 4th album from 1970. This time Spirit decided to produce a `concept album` and the resulting epic work became one of the classic albums of all times. Strongest songwriting to date and exquisit playing mark this milestone recording as one of the best ever Rock albums. More psychedelic influenced then previous 3 albums. An absolute classic! TREES - THE GARDEN OF JANE DELAWNEY 1st album from 1970 by the little known UK Folk / Prog group, which recorded just 2 gem albums. Similar to other groups that played in the same genre, but also different, as they use extensively a heavy Psychedelic influence, especially in the brilliant work of the guitarist. Female vocals and folkish tunes, excellent playing and beautiful singing - what else can one expect? TREES - ON THE SHORE 2nd album from 1970 and very similar to the debut album from the same year. Folkish Prog with Psychedelic delight added in good measure make this album a gem of the genre. The 2 albums are unseparable really - if you like one you`ll need to get the other. Good that this great music is available again. MATCHING MOLE - MATCHING MOLE (MILLENIUM EDITION) 1st album from 1972 by this ephonymous UK Prog group founded by Robert Wyatt after leaving Soft Machine. Absolutely brilliant material (composed mostly by Wyatt) and some highly inspired playing by Phil Miller (guitar), David Sinclair (keyboards) and Bill MacCormick (bass), with Wayatt`s vocals and drumming. Considered by many as one of the best ever Canterbury albums. BLOOMFIELD, MIKE - LIVE AT THE OLD WALDORF Mike Bloomfield was America`s best ever white blues player and his recorded legacy never really expressed fully his extraordinary qualities as a player. This album recorded live in 1976-77 is as close to the naked truth as it gets - Mike doing just what he knows best - playing blues straight from his heart. Brilliant stuff! Have Fun! Together with Cream from UK (to which they had many connections due to Felix Pappalardi, who was the bass player and producer of Mountain, as well as the producer of Cream`s albums), these two bands practically invented heavy rock. Excellent songwriting and playing make this album one of the icons of early heavy rock. MOUNTAIN - FLOWERS OF EVIL 3rd album from 1971 by this US heavy rock outfit, now expanded to a quartet with the addition of Steve Knight on keyboards. Another great collection of songs pefrormed flawlessly and with enourmous enegry and passion. Unfortunately this was to be Mountain`s last studio album, as they disbanded the next year after recording a live album. MOUNTAIN - TWIN PEAKS 5th album from 1974, recorded a year earlier in Japan during a special `reunion` tour. Although only 2 original members play on this album (West & Pappalardi), they sound awsome and the material is a collection of their earlier material, including a 31+ minutes version of Nantucket Sleighride. Loud, powerful and brilliant! OPETH - DAMNATION Swedish band Opeth are considered as one of the most interesting and inventive Metal Prog bands in the last decade. However, this album recorded in 2003, is a complete change of direction for them. Produced by Steve Wilson of the PT fame, who also plays on the album, this is an almost entirely acoustic record, with somber atmosphere and some heartbreaking beautiful songs. A truly amazing achievment! BLOOMFIELD/KOOPER - THE LIVE AVDVENTURES OF Another album in the Supper Session series of meetings between blues vistuoso guitarist Mike Bloomfield and keyboard player extraordinare / producer Al Kooper. This momentous and inspired sessions, recorded in 1968, are a great example of spomtanious music creation at its best. As usual, Bloomfield suffering from insomnia, fails to show up for the last gig and is replaced by no other then Carlos Santana. Absolute classic! SHAMAYIM - SHAMAYIM Only album from 1980 by the short-lived Israeli group Shamayim, which was a cooperation between members of the Fusion group Platina featuring the best Israeli blues singer Dany Litani. Litani`s deep and soulful voice and the excellent instrumental work by the players creates one of the nicest albums ever recorded in Israel, although it received very little attention over the years.
