Solid song-writing, great playing and superb vocals were the group`s forte througout their long and fruitful career and they surely deserve to be re-discovered. AYERS, KEVIN - JOY OF A TOY 1st album from 1969 by one of UK`s most enigmatic and talented artists. Co-founder of Wilde Flowers and later Soft Machine, Ayers was both a superb composer and lyricist. His solo albums are much different from the work he did with his Canterbury cohoots, being very bemused, lyrical and relaxed musically, but rich in content. On this album all famous Canterbury musicians play alongside with Ayers. AYERS, KEVIN - SHOOTING AT THE MOON 2nd album from 1970. This album was recorded with a group of musicians, who were to be a more or less `regular` band Ayers used on his few next albums, including Mike Oldfield on guitar and the incredible Lol Coxhill on saxes. The material is in the same style as the debut album, with some great songs and slightly folky / cabaret feel. AYERS, KEVIN - WHATEVERSHEBRINGSWESING 3rd album from 1971. Similar to the previous album, with Didier Malherbe (Gong) replacing Coxhill and some background vocals by ex-Soft Machine co-founder Robert Wyatt. Another bunch of excellent songs in a unique atmosphere only Ayers is capable of creating. What a joy! AYERS, KEVIN - BANANAMOUR 4th album from 1973. Ayers becomes more interested in `concept` works and this album is an example of such approach. The lyrics being even more meaningful then before and the compositions more complex, but the result is an excellent piece of music and a great document of the era. HACKETT, STEVE - DEFECTOR 4th album from 1980. Typical Hackett material with superb guitar playing in addition to support from his brother on flute and other master musicians. By this time Hackett established his unique voicing and the position of a Prog icon. Although some critics describe this album as one of his lesser acheivements, it is still a great Prog record and Steve`s fans surely won`t miss it in their collection. Have Fun!
