יש קונצרט השבוע עם יצירה שעל הנייר מאוד מעניינת. תהיה השמעת בכורה בארץ לקונצ'רטו לחליל מאת יוסף ברדנשווילי בו "באים לידי ביטוי רמזים למוסיקה של שנברג וסטרווינסקי, לג'אז, לרוק (לתזמורת מצטרפות גיטרות חשמליות [!!! ע.פ.]), למוסיקה עתיקה (ג'ם צ'מבלו על הבמה), למוסיקה עממית ואפילו אזכור של החליל "הפשוט והעדין" של דויד זהבי [מלחין ישראלי מוכר ע.פ.]. את השפע הזה מנגן הסולן לאורך היצירה, בשלושה חלילים: חליל הסופרן המקובל, חליל אלט ופיקולו". זה מתוך תוכניה של הפילהרמונית. מעורר בלוטות רוק, לא? אם היצירה לא תעמוד בהכרזה היומרנית הזו יהיו את הקונצ'רטו לכינור של מנדלסון והסימפוניה ה-3 של ברהמס. אי אפשר להיות רומנטיים מזה... הקונצרט ייערך ביום חמישי בשמונה וחצי וביום שישי בשתיים. חיילים - כמו בכל קונצרט- נכנסים חינם (רק חוגר, בלי מדים) על בסיס מקומות פנויים. שווה.

Karnataka are one of the best new UK Prog bands, which in just a few years established itself as one of the most fascinating groups on the scene. They play a mixture of symphonic prog with celtic elements, spiced with long instrumenatal solos. Imagine Marillion with female lead vocals! KARNATAKA - THE STORM 2nd album from 2000, establishing the group as a permanent feature on the scene and winning them much critical acclaim, leading to many appearances, including the Prog festivals. The same formula as on the debut album, but songs are more developed and arranged. Great lead guitar and of course superb lead vocals by Rachel Jones. KARNATAKA - DELICATE FLAME OF DESIRE 3rd album from 2003. The group surpasses itself again with their best and most ambitious project to date. Excellent musicianship and beautiful tunes make this one of the most memorable recent Prog albums. 2 items added today: PORCUPINE TREE - LIGHTBULB SUN (DELUXE EDITION) Although criticised by veteran PT fans as being more `commercial` in comparison to the earlier releases, this 2000 album by the group is in fact one of their best and most consistent offerings. Great composition and perfect performances make this relaxed and somewhat melancholic album a delight to listen to. The bonus CD offers some additional great and rare audio stuff, as well as some rare video material. Not to be missed! KING CRIMSON - THE DECEPTION OF THE THRUSH Although issued under the KC name, this album is subtitled as `The Beginners` Guide To ProjeKcts`, and is in fact a collection of tracks taken from the 5 ProjeKcts albums, which were recorded by the various sub-groups of KC (so called fractalizations of KC) including members of the double trio lineup between 1997 and 1999. 8 items added today: CZIGLAN, ISTVAN - SEVEN GATES OF ALHAMBRA Solaris guitarist Istvan Cziglan worked on this solo album for some time, but unfortunately it was not released at the time of his tragic death. Released posthumously with the cooperation of other Solaris members, this is a beautiful album, full of great tunes and of course excellent guitar playing. Something that deserves to be played over and over, and never gets boring. FRUUPP - THE PRINCE OF HEAVEN`S EYES 2nd album from 1974 by this Irish Prog outfit. Excellent musicianship and interesting instrumentation were always their forte, but never led to major success, which is a pity. They sound quite fresh today and many Prog fans discover this great music only now - well it`s never too late! FRUUPP - MODERN MASQUERADES 4th and last album by this group from 1975. Shortly after the release of this one, the group called it quits, and played its final gig in London in 1976. After four excellent albums and little commercial sucess thay just couldn`t go on. This album was produced by KC`s Ian McDonald and the band toured as a KC support act. TAAL - SKYMIND 2nd album from 2003 by this sensational French Prog band, which was a breath of fresh air with their exceptional debut album. The follow up is not disappointing one bit - same quirky tunes, rich instrumentation and melodic tension are present here and it keeps the listener at his toes at all times. Remarkable acheivment and one hell of an album! ICONOCLASTA - ADOLESCENCIA CRONICA 4th album from 1989 by this legendary Mexican Prog group. After some personell changes from the original line-up, the band developed a more experimental approach, with long, slowly developing pieces and some modern classical and jazzy elements. The trance-like rhythms create an atmosphere of tension and anticipation. Very interesting! ICONOCLASTA - EN BUSCA DE SENTIDO 5th album from 1990. Same personell as on the previous album and very similar in style, this one is considered to be the group`s strongest effort. Strangely enough the group had a larger following outside their country then at home, especially in Spain, where they toured extensively. ANEKDOTEN - GRAVITY 4th album from 2003 by this great Swedish group, which was quite a surprise after a few years of silence and speculations. The time did mellow them up a bit and this album is less dark and agressive then the earlier works, but still undeniably Anekdoten. They are masters of their trade and fans of the Scandinavian sound will love this one to bits! LONDON UNDERGROUND - THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY 2nd album from 2003 by this sensational Italian Prog band, which recreates the sound of the late 60`s Psychedelia so well, that one could swear this was recorded then. Excellent musicianship and beautiful tunes, full of surprises and humor make this one a true listening pleasure. This is not just a `retro` sound, they have much more to offer.
