אפשר להביא כדוגמא את

The Mars Volta, שחבריה, יוצאי להקת הפאנק At The Drive-In הוציאו אלבום שאתסכן ואגדיר כאחד מאלבומי הפרוג המהפכניים ביותר שיצאו בעשורים האחרונים. האלבום נקרא De-Loused in the Comatorium, והוא אלבום נושא שעוסק באדם שגוסס ממנת יתר, או משהו כזה. לא ברור בדיוק מה הם רוצים שם מבחינה לירית, אבל האלבום פשוט מטורף לחלוטין.

אולי

אבל גם At The Drive-in לא היו להקת פאנק קונבנציונלית בכלל. (עקרונית זה לא פאנק אלא פוסט-הארדקור או Emo משהו, אבל אני לא ממש בטוח מה זה אומר). גם בAt The Drive-in יש שפע של ריפים על השריג ה800 של הגיטרה, מלווים בחמישים ושבעה אפקטים וקצת כאוס מאורגן. ההבדל העיקרי הוא שבATDI לא חורגים ממשקל הארבעה רבעים, ואין כל כך הרבה קטעים אינסטרומנטליים. בין כה וכה, זאת לא להקה כמו גרין דיי, שאפשר להגיד שעקבתי אחרי הקריירה שלהם בצעירותי. ממש אין מה להשוות. מצד שני, גרין דיי הצליחו להפתיע לפני כמה שנים עם שיר אקוסטי מלווה בתזמורת (Time Of Your Life, כמובן) אחרי עשר שנים של עיבודי "אולי נשים פה דיסטורשן", אז לך תדע.

אתם לא חושבים שאתם קצת מגזימים?

אופרה זה לא מושג שמעיד על סגנון מוזיקה. רק על קו עלילתי ביצירה. וזה שמדובר באופרה ממש לא אומר שגרין דיי יתחילו לכתוב מוזיקה מורכבת למענה. שלא נדבר על זה שראיתי קליפ שלהם שהוא כנראה מתוך התקליט הזה היום, ובאמת שלא היה מדבור בשומדבר (מוזיקלית) שהם לא עשו קודם.

מדגימה להקת פאנק אחרת שהוציאה אלבום פרוגרסיב מהפכני. לאו דווקא אופרה. לא שאני באמת מאמין שחברי גריןדיי מסוגלים למשהו שאפילו מתקרב לבנאלי, שלא לדבר על מהפכני.

The summer is over and here we are again with new items streaming in. 2 items added today: MARILLION ~ THE EMI SINGLES COLLECTION (DVD) This is a great collection of all Marillion video material filmed between 1982 - 1995 while the band was under the EMI contract. A glimpse of the past and a historical retrospective, this DVD shows the development and the constant changes that the band went through, fascinating document. Also included is a `hidden track` recorded especially for this DVD. Dolby Digital Stereo, 89 minutes. MARILLION ~ FROM STOKE ROW TO IPANEMA (DVD) This double DVD set documents the most dramatic period of the band`s history (1989 - 1990) immediately after their legendary singer Fish left the band to be replaced by Steve Hogarth. You can find here an impromptu performance at a small club, a concert in Brazil in front of 85,000 fans and a concert back home after a successful world tour. 4 items added today: AKKERMAN, JAN ~ PROFILE 1st album from 1972 by the legendary Focus guitarist, recorded while he was still with the group. It showcases Akkerman`s brilliant playing, both as an electric Fusion player and as acoustic classical one. Backed by the cream of contemporary Dutch musicians (some fellow Focus members and some members of other groups like Trace) he shines throughout. The 20+ minutes opening track is a Fusion suite a la Mahavishnu. A classic! VAN LEER, THIJS ~ INTROSPECTION/INTROSPECTION 2 1st and 2nd albums from 1972/1975 by the founder and leader of the legendary Dutch band Focus. Both album feature Van Leer`s amazing flute talents, but as opposed to his work with Focus, they are both arranged for large orchestra and include, in addition to his own compositions, many classical works, mainly by Bach. The performances are brilliant of course and the serene and relaxed atmosphere is typical of European approach to music. A classic (pun intended)! RENDELL, DON/CARR, IAN ~ PHASE III/LIVE 3rd and 4th albums from 1968/1969 by this extraordinary UK jazz outfit. It continues the ground-breaking development of modern jazz with elegance and sophistication typical of European jazz in the 60`s, which combines the elements of conteporary modern jazz and the legacy of classical composition. All players in the Quintet are extraordinary and the compositions complex, yet retaining a subtle melodic qualities. A true gem! RENDELL, DON/CARR, IAN ~ SHADES OF BLUE/DUSK FIRE 1st and 2nd albums form 1965/1966 by one of the greatest UK jazz groups in all times. Both leaders are exceptionally gifted players and composers, but also the rhythm section includes some of the best UK players ever, especially the brilliant piano player and composer Michael Garrick. The level of compositions is extremely high and presents possibly the best amalgam of modern jazz influences with both jazz and classical traditionalism. Truly extraordinary achievement. Have Fun!
