I bumped into this form of sentence..

"I asked him for your phone number but he wouldn't give it to me" My question is - why wouldn't? what tense is that? Whay not "Didn't want to.."?

didn't means that, he simply didn't give it

to you Maybe if you'll ask again (or under different circumstances ) he will reconsider. Maybe he wasn't at the right mood for your request ... He wouldn't means that - he doesn't want to give it to you for some reason no matter what you do or how many time you're gonna ask for it Wouldn't means that we've got a bigger problem here . The translation in Hebrew is הוא לא יתן לי את המספר (שלמעשה זה - הוא לא רוצה לתת לי את המספר)
