Cracked Window at 36000 feet

that a good question what os the reason that it happend
before the windshield cracked we had a causion message of the window heat system, i think thatb this alert was because the window was carcked ,
you can hve few possibilities
one jus fatige of the windshiled,
2nd may be the window had hstory of bird strike , that was not dammage the window , but may be made it weaker, , may be a diffrent of tempruture or
we were very lucky thanks to the 3 layers of the glass window , while we were left with the last one only , should we were few more minutes at this altitude with doinf nothing that could be disaster.
what the checklist asked us to do is to go down and slow down , down to 8000 feet slow down to 205 KTS
And increase the cabin pressure to 6.2 PSI
In other words the checklist asked us to make the airplane cabin less preserized to a point that the diddrent between the outdise and the inside will be 6.2 PSI and that to reduce the pressure on the window
that happend 200 miles from Dallas fort word about 50 minutes of flight,
i hope that my explanation was simple

Almost done...

What are the procedures if the window does break away? (Assuming it will fly out due to the cabin higher pressure )

Can a crew survive such incident?

answer for your question

if the window broke , at 36000 you have few seconds to put your mask on your face,
thinking about it after i had this emergency , its going to be almost impossible to deal with the vacume that will create , the winf of 500 KTS and the temprature of -50 C
ADD TO IT THAT EVERY THING THAT IS NOT SECURED IS GOING TO SUCked out of the cockpit , and that include the mask , i really can not tell you if i could made it , as some one mentioned above , that happned before and the airplane was landing safely
,when you have your mask , you have to decend in emergency to 10000 ft
hope that answered your question

British Airways Flight 5390 was scheduled to operate a route from Birmingham in England to Malaga in Spain on 10th June, 1990. BAC – One Eleven was the type of aircraft that was used in this flight. The windscreen in front of the Captain’s seat suddenly shot out to the sky in a second, half of the Captain’s body got blew outside the windscreen immediately at 17,300 feet and lying against the left hand side of the side window of the cockpit. With the team work from the co- pilot and the cabin crews, the co- pilot could stay claim and stable to make logical decision during the event, he had managed to land the aircraft at Southampton Airport with no life loss and the Captain amazingly survived after being physically exposed outside the cockpit for approximately 20 minutes. The Captain lost his consciousness due to thin air; his body was frozen in 500mph slipstream.

The cause of the windscreen blew out was because the sizes of the bolts for the windscreen were wrongly replaced the night before the flight. the replacements of the bolts on the windscreen could not support the decompression of the cabin. The engineer who embedded these bolts ignored the procedures and professional advice, fitting the wrong size of bolt to the windscreen while he was working under pressure, he made the decision due to the strong psychological believe he had in his own knowledge and expertises. This was the first accident report which involved Human Factors in Maintenance and Engineering department of the aviation system.

האם ניתן להחלץ ממצב כזה ו- LIVE TO TELL THE TALE מסתבר שכן...
