"Elvis On Stage" by Keith Alverson As reviewed by "The King's Corner" There are simply not enough words that can be used to describe this INCREDIBLE book! Forget what you may have read on the internet about how good "Elvis On Stage" by Keith Alverson is...IT IS BETTER!! Having seen some of Keith's magnificent photographs first hand, we had nothing but high expectations for Keith's debut in the Elvis photo book arena. But, as soon as we cracked open "Elvis On Stage"...we were SIMPLY STUNNED!!! NEVER has "The King of Rock N' Roll" been photographed so handsomely or brilliantly!! But, Keith has DONE it!! Upon our first look at Keith's outstanding book, we were astounded to see that EACH AND EVERY photograph throughout this 112 page masterpiece was in VIBRANT COLOR...no black and white shots here!!! Our next thought was that, with 112 pages, there surely would be TONS of photographs crammed onto each page, like most other Elvis photo books...again, NOT HERE!!! Aside from a short introduction by Keith, EACH page contains ONE FANTASTIC FULL COLOR photograph of Elvis on stage, doing what he did best -- entertaining his fans!! Contained within the 112 pages of "Elvis On Stage" are OUTSTANDING photos of Elvis on stage, as well as some very candid shots. The photos were taken by Keith between 1973 and 1977, and showcase some of Elvis' greatest jumpsuits, including the "Sundial", "Red Phoenix", "Dragon", "Peacock" and "King of Spades" suits, among others. Each brilliant photograph within this book is crystal clear and most are up-close and personal! The photos are presented in their original form, just the way Keith originally shot them. To maintain each photos integrity, Keith even had some of the photos printed HORIZONTALLY in the book, so they wouldn't have to be cropped. Keith has also added a few personal anecdotes and notes pertaining to the photos, where appropriate, without wasting space with text that has been printed a thousand times before. The main focus of "Elvis On Stage" is right where it should be... on ELVIS!!! "Elvis On Stage" by Keith Alverson is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE in your Elvis library!! Keith Alverson was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 3, 1952. Keith first heard Elvis on the radio when he was 4 years old, and convinced his mother to take him to the department store to purchase that song -- "Hound Dog". Keith grew up in a home full of Elvis fans, for not only was Keith an Elvis fan, but so were his parents and brother. Today, Keith is lucky that his wife, Marsha, is also a big Elvis fan. Originally, Keith began photographing Elvis for his own personal reasons, and for his collection. According to Keith, "I didn't have a decent camera and, needless to say, my first photos of Elvis were pretty bad." Soon, Keith would purchase his first "good camera", a Minolta 101, and began studing photography. Keith would take his first professional photos of Elvis in concert in Atlanta on July 3, 1973. Originally, Keith did not have tickets for this show, but as fate would have it, someone approached Keith outside the Omni Auditorium where Elvis was performing, and gave him 10th row tickets for the show. As Keith would later discover, the tickets were originally held for a "special guest" who didn't make the concert, so the tickets were given to Keith. And, just like that...Keith was on his way! Keith would eventually see Elvis approximately 85 times in concert during the 1970's. According to Keith, Elvis' appearances in Las Vegas were much more relaxed than on tour. However, due to what Keith describes as a "ridiculous restriction" of not being able to take photographs in the Las Vegas Showroom, Keith was never able to take any photos of Elvis while performing there. Nevertheless, Keith managed to capture some magnificent photos of The King on tour across America! Although Keith never had the opportunity to meet Elvis personally, he did manage to shake Elvis' hand a few times as well as capture some rare and candid shots of Elvis, which he now happily shares with Elvis fans, along with his FANTASTIC concert shots! Today, Keith is still very active in the "Elvis World", traveling worldwide to meet Elvis fans and share some of his stories and photos. Keith has also recently released his very first photo book, "On Stage", which displays some of his most breathtaking photos of Elvis in concert.

"AS ELVIS STEPPED ONTO THE STAGE, HE WALKED STRAIGHT TOWARD ME. I STOOD UP AND STUCK OUT MY HAND TO HIM. HE NOTICED ME AND LEANED DOWN AND SHOOK MY HAND AND GAVE ME A REALLY COOL SMILE! (THE PHOTO WAS TAKEN BY JOYCE BIDDY). DICK GROB WHO WAS ELVIS' CHIEF OF SECURITY OBTAINED THE ORIGINAL NEGATIVE AND HAS GIVEN ME PERMISSION TO USE IT IN THE BOOK!!"
