Clapton, front row, JUST GOT BACK!!
Oh my god.... THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! This show was absolutely amazing. It was an orgy of guitars, it was spectatular!! Eric Clapton and the magnificent Derek Trucks (on slide SG) just tore the place apart, and Doyle Bramall added some crazy solos as well. Also, on the keyboards I was excited to see Chris Stainton, who played in Mad Dogs & Englishmen!!! I was pleasently suprised with Eric's voice - he sang great on all the songs. The show itself was a "return to derek & the dominos" sort of thing, with more than half the setlist with songs that were played either on the Layla record on on the Live At The Fillmore live album. I just love that album, and they really did justice for it. with Derek as the replacement to Duane (its important to note that Derek Trucks is also an Allman Brother, so that's kind of a full circle) everything was just perfect. every song got into extended jamming with solos after solos and some acoustic songs in the middle. The hilights for me were Got To Get Better In A Little While, Layla, but most of all, Motherless Children - the song that opened up the album 461 Ocean Blvd. Derek just NAILED the sliding parts there, and when it started I almost exploded... I pretty much knew what they were gonna play because they're playing the same setlist for the past 10 shows, and tonight was no different. The only wierd thing was that people sat down during the entire show... but thats just the Auzzies - quite and polite. Only during the enchore we all stood. During the entire shows I was rockin' to the music and screaming my lunges off, so I guess I won't be able to talk for a few days... Here's the setlist: 01. Tell The Truth 02. Key To The Highway 03. Got to Get Better in A Little While 04. Little Wing 05. Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? Sit Down, EC on acoustic guitar 06. Driftin' Blues (EC Solo) 07. Outside Woman Blues 08. Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out 09. Running On Faith 10. Motherless Children 11. Little Queen of Spades 12. Further On Up The Road 13. Wonderful Tonight 14. Layla Encore 15. Cocaine 16. Crossroads ...and I got out with a pretty cool loot! Everyone who were with the higher priced ticket range got a lithograph of a special artistic poster, designed especially for the Australian tour... its numbered and everything, REALLY incredible! It was designed with the inspiration of the Aburignies art, I'll post a picture soon. Oh, and I got to take some AMAZING pictures as well!! Next week I'll post some of them here, when I'll move to my new place and would have the opportunity to use internet on my own computer. So back to the loot: after the show ended, I KNEW that I need to have a setlist... so I waited while the roadies took off the carpet from the stage, and I yell to them "excuse me! can I get a setlist please??" untill one of them gave it to me - it even has the shoeprints of Mr. Slowhand himself!
Oh, and I also got a guitar pick. A genuine guitar pick that a roadie picked from the floor of the stage and threw to me. Its blue, and on one side sticking out in bold "ERIC CLAPTON", and on the other side, "BACK HOME WORLD TOUR". that's something to show the grandchildren! Oh, and I also bought a REALLY cool Tshirt, but that's not special. Anyway, I'm going to take a shower and go to bed... next week I'll post photos. Cheers, mates!
