About books and school.

This year, unlike last, we did not get a book-list for next year. Ofcourse the resault was a total panic...I, as a va´ad member, got at least 20 phone calls. So- I called the head-master, and she gave me the answer:they are NOT going to make the kids buy ANY books (ok-math notebooks, but that´s something like 50ns a year...) this year. INSTEAD they are going to use:1-the media (internet etc.), the school "maagar sfarim", and papers (dapei meida) as sources. I like the idea. are there any other schools you know of which use the same method? btw-this year the central subject is going to be GVULOT (borders and limits) and the subject is going to be a super-subject so they use ALL the known subjects (hebrew, georraphy, science, bible etc. ) to investigate it. r/

אצלנו יש רשימת ספרים די גדולה

אני לא כל כך מאמינה בשינויים קיצוניים.בדרך כלל זו החלטה של מנהלת בית הספר שאינה מלמדת בכיתות . המורות בלית ברירה מקבלות את החלטתה אבל בשטח הן אלו שצריכות ללמד וזה לא ממש עובד. עדיף להחליט על מקצוע אחד שבו מנסים לשנות ובאמת מלמדים את המקצוע באמצעות מחשב , אינטרנט מרכזי למידה. מענין לשמוע איך זה עבד.

That´s very interesting. Where is this school, is it a primary school?

yes it is.

The school is in Pardes-Chana, a "regular" (ie. mamlachti) school. The point is that during the past couple of years the entire school have gone thru a change in the conseption of the schooling system. It is a long process, and the entire school (head-master, teachers, students AND parents) are involved. It requires a change in the "tfisa" more than anything else. IT WORKS!!! last year (the one that just ended) 100% of the first grade students passed the "mivchan ezori" of reading skills and math with an avarage of 85!!! ALL first graders know how to read and "havanat hanikra" is at a very high level. Same for second, third.....graders. Last year the "tfisa" was of "eshkolot lemida" (the teachers here know what I mean....) and the main subject was "adam, eretz, chevra", where the 2 branches were "chevra and leom" (more of yahadut, but we also have non jewish kids so it was multi-religion) r/

כשאני הייתי ביסודי...

וגם עכשיו באותו בי"ס, אין רשימת ספרים. לבי"ס הספר יש ספרים והוא מחלק אותם לתלמידים. (יש תוספת תשלום, אני חושבת שקוראים לזה ´אגרת ספרים´, אבל זה הרבה פחות מלקנות אותם) בתחילת שנה כל ילד מקבל את הספר מהמורה, בסוף השנה מחזירים. אני שנים לא הבנתי מה פתאום אנשים שמים את הספרים שלהם למכירה על הרצפה ברחוב... אבל זה לא אותו דבר. למרות שאני יודעת שיש שימוש נרחב במחשבים (היום), יש אפילו כמה בחדר מורים, וזה נורא שיק היום להביא חומר מהאינטרנט. (החלפתי שם מקום לפני כמה זמן...) אבל זאת לא מגמה מוכתבת מלמעלה, אם כי יש לזה עידוד.
