A question, if I may:
Recently, during one of my class' English lessons, the teacher was so kind in informing us that there would be a vocabulary quiz in a few more days. In order to make sure we all know the meaning of said vocabulary, she read each and every word and told us its meaning. The problem (*my* problem, to be exact) occurred when she got to the word "anguish". She seemed determined to pronounce it as "agonish" for some reason, and this is the part in which my question comes in: Is this word really said like that? Is there a valid reason for saying it like that? And before you send me to m-w.com to hear for myself, note that I have already paid a visit to that website and according to it (and to my dictionary at home) this word is pronounced just as it is written, anguish. During the quiz itself, in the dictation part, she said something about being aware that this word is being pronounced "anguish" and then reverted to address it as "agonish". So, again I ask, do you know why she insists on saying it that way? Thanks ahead and sorry for my long post.
