a problem with a translation

I'm trying to translate a paragraph and i'm having difficulties with this sentence, from the world of science\chemistry- "Dumas predicted the existence of silicone rubbers ion 1840." That is the full sentence and I feel like there is a word missing. It's possible that I just misunderstood the meaning of the sentence so any explanation will do

you should probably try

Asking in the other English forum - #740. Maybe some there will be able to help you.

LOL

probably not, considering that ion is an electrically charged atom (has either extra electron or missing one electron)

Yeah, I know

I was sort of counting on "ion" to be a mistype of "on" (which makes sense, because otherwise the sentence is totally absurd grammatically and in terms of meaning. Here's the text itself (found it in google) so you can figure it out for yourself http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=920
