yOu probably had a plugged duct
which is red and painful. It could be caused by a number of things: 1. something is pressing on the breast in that area: your finger, your bra, your purse strap, etc 2. your baby is not latched well and not draining the breast correctly IN either case, you should see a yoetset hanaka to help solve the problem.
