-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't have a lot of time because we're on a deadline for the magazine, but I wanted to share a few tinhga about my interview with Tori yesterday. She was very very friendly and we really had a good conversation. I was nervous of course, since tori is my #1 interview and I've only been doing interviews for a year, but she really made me feel at ease. I told her we did her horoscope for the magazine a couple of months ago and read it to her. She asked me if I did the horoscope myself, and I told her my mother used to do tarot card reading. She asked ,,Does she still do it?" and I told her my mother had died 3 years ago. And instantly I got really really emotional, could hardly speak and almost started to cry. Which is ODD, because I never get that emotional when talked about my mother anymore. She got a little teary eyed as well and started talking about Michael and how she listened to Toast over and over for an hour on Easter. She still feels very close to both Michael and Kevin Aucoin. ...anyway... I asked her about Y Kant Tori Read - if she had come to terms with it more. She said she probably 'needed' the album to get to a certain point; without YKTR there is no Little Earthquakes and without Little Earthquakes there is no Pink, Pele and all the other albums that followed. I asked her if she was going to do some more YKTR songs and said Floating City would be good. She agreed and seriously started talking about doing it. Later on she also agreed The Big Picture would kick ass live. She mentioned she would try and work some of those songs out with 'Matty'. I also told her she soundchecked Fire On The Side for the 2005 tour and she said ,,I did??" The woman has no clue what hidden gems she are available in the live recording vaults. I suggested getting out a double (or triple) CD for each past tour, with highlights. I mentioned some tracks that should be on there (PGY Clearwater 2005, HELLO) and she gave me the e-mail address for Mark's assistant or whatever, to contact him. She completely isn't focussed on old material and was very keen on the idea of a fan coming in, taking requests form other fans and putting together a collection of live highlights. So... I'm excited about that. For this tour, she wants to put out EVERY single show. Mark is looking into mixing every show on-the-fly. Of course the mixing won't be up to the standard of the 2005 bootleg collection, but she did mention it would always sound better than the audience recordings that are out there (which she didn't mind, BTW). So she wants to try and do the PEarl Jam thing for EVERY show (have it up for download quickly after the show has happened) and then after the tour hand-pick about 10 shows to REALLY do a proper mix for and release those on CD. We talked about Tash (she showed me a recent picture, cute) and how she's into R&B now. ,,She's watching too much Disney channel, I'm telling you". She made her listen to Aretha Franklin so she could hear 'proper' R&B and Tash loved it. They're still figuring out how to work around not having a guitarist on tour. We did speak about Mac Aladdin but it's already pretty clear what the story on Mac Aladdin is... She wants to do a show with a big orchestra. There was talk about doing something with the Montreux Jazz Festival, but it hasn't happened yet because there wasn't any time... Also the Montreux JAzz festival is with Warner and she is with Epic, which complicated things. But she'd love to do it. That's basically all I can remember for now. The whole interview was AMAZING. We spent a little over 45 minutes (instead of the 30 minutes I was given) and she kept sending my friend from Sony away. Oh and she signed my real YKTR CD cover. And she wrote down my e-mail address in a cute little book with pink pages. Something a teenager would have. I thought that was nice. After I was done she told the girl from Sony she really liked the interview and that I was 'a good one'. When I left the room she said we'd be in touch. I was so overwhelmed from the interview and all the emotions regarding my mother that had come up, I had trouble not crying on the tram ride home. But it was definitely good - yesterday was one of the best days of my life. As soon as I've transcribed the full interview (will be within a week) I'll post it here. Promise.
