קטע מופלא מתוך HAGAKURE
בעקבות דברים שעלו לדיון לאחרונה - בעיקר הנקודה של אימוני חרב ביפן על אסירים, גופות ושאר ירקות, להלן קטע שזכרתי (ולקח לי זמן לאתר) מתוך הספר, שהוזכר גם כן. הקטע באנגלית, ומספר, למי שמחפש תשובה קצרה, איך סמוראים צעירים, בני 15 לערך, היו מקבלים לבצע עריפות ראש וחיתוכי אסירים, כדי להכיר את התחושה... הסופר (טסונטומו יאמאמוטו) תוקף את אלו המתנגדים לשיטה, וטוען כי "יפי הנפש" האלו אינם אלא פחדנים. יותר מכך, הוא מזכיר איך הגיע פעם (בילוי של שבת??) לכיכר הוצאות להורג, ערף ראש להנאתו ואוי, כמה שההרגשה הזו טובה... לקרוא וללקק את השפתיים (לא כולל יפי נפש)
Yamamoto Kichizaemon was ordered by his father Jin´-emon to cut down a dog at the age of five, and at the age of fifteen he was made to execute a criminal. Everyone, by the time they were fourteen or fifteen, was ordered to do a beheading without fail. When Lord Katsushige was young, he was ordered by Lord Naoshige to practice killing with a sword. It is said that at that time he was made to cut down more than ten men successively. To think that it is unnerving is a symptom of cowardice.
