As you know all DVD media is divided into 6 worldwide regions. In Israel , as the American MPAA laws takes no legal effect , You can find DVD`s at rental stores from regions 1 (Us/Canada) and 2 (West Europe + Israel). The RPC standard aids the regional law enforcement on PC-DVD-ROM. The original RPC law which all DVD player software companies had to obey defined a software counter which allows you to switch between 5 regions before the last region get Software locked. You can imagine the amount of patches created to override this law , known as RPC-1. MPAA didn`t give up and made a new rule which all DVD-ROM Drivers manufactures had to obey. This rule defines a hardware counter inside the DVD-ROM drive , Once it get locked , there is nothing you can do, other than watch DVD`s from this region only. This is the RPC-2 standard. Since the 01/01/2000 , All DVD-ROM drives are made RPC-2. Out came brave man with a nice solution , The DVD vendors , makes it possible to upgrade the DVD`s bios to newer versions. The Flash updates for the bios is always available to download from their site. So , What ever is programmable , is also hackle. RPC-1 Patches , Flashes the DVD drive bios and kills the counter making it ``RPC-1`` like. And as I mentioned , there are many many software patches for that.
