It isn't so simple
Your relationship will be recognised however it isn't quite the same as marriage. In the UK for example, or like in Germany, all you need in order to get permission to form a civil partnership (or marriage) is to prove you two have met (even if you have only met once). however in France you will have to prove cohabitation for a minimum of two years if i am not mistaken- so you will need to prove that you have been living together for a period of two years at the same flat, sharing a life together... If you are going to claim to having done that in France you will need to show the authorities you have been living there legally for the period of time you claim to have been co-habiting. This is what a friend of mine had to go through a year ago. If you are in Israel you may want to phone the French Consulate to get more precise information, or simply ask your partner to check the webpages of the French Ministry of Interior.
