משפחת אורטס
שלום לכם, אמי היא בת למשפחת אורטס (Ortasse, Ortas) והרי חלק ממכתב שקיבלתי מבן-דוד מדרגה שניה, המתגורר בארה"ב (אביו הוא בן דוד של אמי, מצד אביה) I have also been successful in tracing down the origin of our family to Orthez, France (hence the name d'Ortas) in the south west corner near the Pyrenees. Apparently our ancestor, move to Leiria, Portugal and were printers in the late 1400s. Samuel and his sons (one named Abraham) were printers of Incunabula (printing before the printing press) and in addition to the Jewish texts, printed the Almanac Perpetuum, written by another Jew Abraham Zacuto, which was used by Christopher Columbus on his voyages. It's a very famous book and there are only a few copies in existence. When the Inquisition came to Portugal, the d'Ortas family left and ended up in Pesaro, Italy, on the east coast near San Marino in the early 15th century. That's where the trail ends, so far. About 400 years later, our ggf, Raphael came to Turkey from Italy, probably Venice. Somewhere along the line, the name changed from d'Ortas to Ortasse so that it would be pronounced properly. בבדיקה של הדברים (באינטרנט) מצאתי כי אכן היה בפורטוגל שמואל ד'אורטס אשר הדפיס ספרים ובין היתר את ספרו של ר' אברהם בן שמואל זכות (או זכותא לפי מקורות אחרים). באנציקלופדיה העברית (נדמה לי בערך אינקונבולה [כאמור, אלו הם ספרים שנדפסו ב"חיתולי" או בעריסת הדפוס, לפני שנת 1500]) מופיע דון שמואל דורטש. כמו-כן מצאתי (שוב באינטרנט) מידע על כך שבעקבות גירוש פורטוגל (1497), היגרה המשפחה לפזארו שבאיטליה, וגם שם עסקה בדפוס. השאלה היא האם יש דרך לגשר על כ-400 שנה, מבני שמואל ד'אורטס, עד רפאל אורטס שנולד במחצית השניה של המאה ה-19? תודה, אבינעם
