Many students from out of town live on campus during their first year, and they later try to find something nearby. In Toronto, living on campus is more expensive than what is available to students off campus. However, apartments in BC seem to be generally much more expensive than in Toronto, and you may not have a choice but to live on campus. Continue to look around, and once you manage to find something less expensive off campus, you can always move.
