[email protected]): Last night was really a great show. I had a chance to hear the soundcheck and was more than amazed to hear: Garden, Breath and Mankind. I wasn't in front but not right in the back... so I saw both the band and the crowd. After seeing PJ live in VB - with my ten club tickets- Front Row Center- right in front of Eddie, nothing will ever be quite amazing. But JB first nite was very special too, off course. Before Sonic Youth appeared, Eddie got on stage to sing 'Dead Man' by himself, and the crowd was cheering. It was melancholic and deep as ever with Ed's bass voice. I could see Sonic Youth members and I think (Coco was there too) standing on the left side of the stage and listening to Ed as he was playing. Sonic Youth were great as they played the song '100%' which my all-time favorite and Kim Gordon danced her seducing dance during Kool Thing. (which I got to see in VB too.) They also played 'Teenage Riot' and dedicated it to their friend Kurt Cobain- or maybe they said it was "about him." [On Monkey Wrench Radio 1 'Teenage Riot' was the first song to be played, so I felt this was like closing a circle.] They also played 'Butterfly' (is this the name?) and said it's a "winter song." 'Bull in the Heather' and 'Nevermind, What Was It Anyway?' I must say that it was sad the amphitheatre was almost empty then. Now to the main event- Pearl Jam. It was about 2 hours. I do not remember the order of the songs so I will just list the ones I know they played: Long Road, Grievance, God's Dice, Habit, Nothing As it seems, Animal, Last Exit, Corduroy, Not For You, Wishlist. DTE, Even Flow, Black, MFC, the man trilogy by order: Better Man, Leatherman, and Nothingman, Soon Forget, Present Tense, Daughter/Hold On, Rearviewmirror, SOLAT! and Fucking Up! [If there are quotes they are only by memory and not exact!] Highlights: *In Wishlist Eddie forgot a line and in the end of the song added "I wish I would remember the lines" something like that. *Before 'Soon Forget' Eddie came to talk about voting. he said they are very Excited and he doesn't know if it's because it's New York, because they're a band and they get to travel the world and play rock 'n roll, but he thinks it's exciting because this year we get to vote. He then said "I'm not going to tell you who to vote for-Ralph Nader- and what party-the Green Party-but just vote" and then he said that he's sorry if he's offended anyone but with such a big crowd it's very important... Then he said- "I don't know if Ralph knows about our band but I think he would like this song" and he played 'Soon Forget.' *On daughter the crowd was clapping hands together like mad, it was great... and Eddie has felt that attention and asked "do you like singing?" and as we answered "yehhh" he sang 'Hold On' and we echoed 'Hold On' and he sang "take my hand..." (I'm not sure in this one).. I don't know if this is an improvisation or a cover but I've never heard this before. It was great! (I must admit though, that the VB 'It's Okay' crowd singing was much better.) *Ed ran from left to right on the edge of the stage and touched all the fans hands! I think he did that twice at the concert. *Lots of jumping- Ed, Mike and Jeff, and some microphone stunts. The guys looked as happy and excited as ever. *The lights were great during the whole show but Rearviewmirror was definitely the highlight in light effects. As the lights flickered at the end of the song it was so intense the crowd went crazy. *Ed said how cool it was to be playing with Sonic Youth. It is, it is! *Before Habit Ed said that it's about a friend of his. * Ed listed a few states they've toured in America on this tour leg, and then said "there must be at least someone or two in here that have been to Memphis" (?). *Mikes' solo's were the most amazing I remember hearing!!!!!!! He was great, and the sound was amazing too. *Before 'Sleight of Hand' Eddie said there's a song they know they'd like to play to us, he joked that there are a few more songs they know but this is one they'd like to play and they hope we enjoy it. (duh! off course we will.) My Favorites: *Before the show I really wished for 'Fuckin' Up', SOLAT, Grievance and DTE. I was amazed they played all of these! I wouldn't believe they played Fuckin' Up!! It's so great to play that live! And SOLAT is kinda rare too! *Not For You was VERY special to me, and Present Tense. *I liked Ed's comment about voting and the cheers of the supporting crowd, and the light effects during the show were the most amazing I've seen so far. My friend, Karsten, thinks that the next two shows will be better and better, because PJ wants to give the best at the end. If this turns out to be true- the 3rd nite is going to be the Bomb! Because the first nite had no disappointments in it! I can't wait for tonight and the nite after! in a state of love and trust, Yael Korat (aka Jez23)
