Okay, and here's mine

I'm afraid that after about 10 years in Holland, I still haven't developed a taste for the local sounds. Since I do not want to be rude about Dutch music, I will say nothing.

Okay, my life in music: Early influences that go beyond music alone: David Bowie, Velvet Underground (and Lou Reed), Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Iggy Pop, Clash, Jam, Ian Dury. And there's also: Joni Mitchell (everything she touches turns to gold, as far as I'm concerned), and Miles Davis, Weather Report (and all it's members separately), and so much more. If I went through my cd (and record!) collection, I would end up with RSI, so I'm just giving a general impression. If you would define my tastes according to geographical proximity, then I guess England has the greatest influence. I like many very English bands: Primal Scream, New Order, Happy Mondays, and other (mostly) Northern music. I also like American music: The White Stripes, the Scissor Sisters - to name a couple more recent bands. Macy Grey. Nirvana. Prince! And, yes, I do have one or two kd lang CDs... But you probably guessed that already.

so far... it's much better to keep silent when it comes to dutch music. And KD Lang - well, I didn't really start going into details about it, but I have the Swedish version (Eva Dahlgren) - so if you're into dike music, that's the thing for ya.

for the really desperate... And now I've forgotten her name. Oh, god, I've suddenly remembered Sugar Lee Hooper (that's another one)!

(an icon in the form of Munch's The Scream would be much more appropriate here) Let's see if I can help you visualise her: if she lay on the beach on a hot day, Greenpeace would rescue her and drag her back into the sea... she's got a shaved head and her face slightly resembles that of Buster Bloodvessel (the lead singer of the English punk band Bad Manners - go and search for his photo on the internet), and just to add a certain "je ne sais quoi" to her general appearance, she wears huge frilly dresses with puff sleeves... [icon: Munch's The Scream or the boy in Home Alone] Yeah, yeah, I hear you: who says that just because I am a (semi) dyke I have to be politically correct too?

And that reminds me that I forgot to mention my Melissa Etheridge double cd... Shit, I didn't realise how predictable I was. Does your Swedish dyke sing in English, or do I have to take a crash course in Scandinavian languages?​

Svenska, förstås

Eva Dahlgren sings in both Swedish and English, but the best songs are in Swedish. Last year she tried to form a band with two other dykes, and sing in English, but it didn't work very well. I know Bad Manners... had a boyfriend who was all into this retro-punk thingie. And yes... I also forgot all about my own Melissa Etheridge. I didn't buy it though. Got is as a X-mas present last year. Talking about dykes - was invited to a lesbian film night next week, ans will probably be the only guy there. As always.

אתה לא רוצה לדעת...

איזה מוזיקה מזעזעת יש להולנדים. אין סיכוי שזה עובר את סף ביתי. כשאני חושב על זה יש לי שני תקליטים של זמרת הולנדית בשם ריטה רייס, שהייתה בזמנה זמרת ג'אז לא רעה. היום היא כבר נורא זקנה (אפילו יותר מרו), ובשנה שעברה כשראיתי אותה בפסטיבל הים הצפוני היא לא היתה מסוגלת להחזיק טונים כבר. בבית יש ג'אז ג'אז ועוד קצת ג'אז - בעלי ממש משוגע על מוזיקה ואני חושב שיש לנו אוסף שמגיע לסביבות האלף דיסקים. רק על המחשב הוא מחזיק כרגע 96 שעות של מוזיקה... חוץ מזה יש כמה שאריות של מוזיקה עברית, דברים שאהבתי שהייתי מתבגר (אני לא אגיד מה בקול רם כי זה מביך), ומוזיקה קלאסית (אבל זה אנחנו שומעים בעיקר ברדיו). וד"ש למרקו בורסטו...

אצלי אפשר למצוא הרבה, אבל בעיקר - האחת והיחידה - Joni Mitchel יש גם Joan Baez, Eva Cassidy, Skin, Skunk Anansie, Suzzane Vega, Melissa Etheridge, Jude, Hedwig& The Angry Inch,Paula Cole, Nick Drake, Jane Sibery ועוד רבים וטובים. החברים שלי תמיד מתבדחים שיש לי טעם של לסבית במוסיקה. אין לי מושג מה זה אומר... אני והשותף שלי יוצאים לפעמים לראות להקות בבארים אבל זה הכי קרוב למוסיקה מקומית שמצאתי...
