Singapore vs. Hong Kong

I've lived in both places for a few years each. However not with kids. Both countries are very "user friendly" with Singapore, IMO, even more so. Assuming your kids education will be paid by the employer then I don't see a significant difference between the two places. International schools tend to be of high quality as the "heavy" expats send their kids there. Generally speaking, most people that I know feel that: Singapore: quieter, cleaner, less crowded, smaller, more boring, safer, easier with language, small Israeli community. Hong Kong: larger, a lot more Chinese in nature and language, larger Israeli community, has more "buzz", more expensive. Hong Kong also has a direct flight to Israel with ELAL while from Singapore you need to fly via Bangkok, Istanbul or Europe. Feel free to ask any questions.

Yes

You're welcome. Yes, I'm living in Singapore now. A bit difficult to tell you about the cost of living, especially since you're a family and it might be a different lifestyle. But here are some examples, all numbers in Singapore $: 2-3 bedroom furnished condo in a good location - about 2,000+ 10Mbps broadband - 60 Cable TV - 30 to 60 800min Mobile phone - 70 Underground ride about 1 to 1.5 - fast, efficient and cheap Nice meal in a good restaurant for 2: 100 to 150 Foodcourt meal per person: 3 to 6 (you can get excellent food and huge variety in shopping malls foodcourts) Outpatient doctor visit: 40-80 (depends on location, medication etc.) Starbucks coffee: 3 to 6 McD meal: about 6 Cleaner for 5 hours visit, once a week: 50 per visit Full time live-in maid: about 700 (very useful and common if you have very young kids) Flight to Bangkok for the weekend - 100 to 300 Taxi ride for 20min: 7 to 15 (depending on time, surcharges, booing fee etc.) Art performance / concert - about 50 to 100 per ticket Gym membership - about 60 per month (they have nice gyms here) Haircut for men: 10 to 40 (I cut for 10, works fine for me) Groceries - varies wildly depending on what you buy and where, fruits and vegetables are expensive and nowhere near as nice as in Israel, same thing for most dairy products you're probably used to from Israel. It's a similar situation in Hong kong as well and most of Asia. Shopping - clothes, bags, shoes, eyeglasses, electrical stuff, computer stuff, etc. are all cheaper here and of top quality. One of the main benefits here is that the tax is super low but it will depends on how the pay is structured here vs. getting paid back in Israel etc. Let me know if you want to know anything specific.

Thanks

One Singapore Dollar is about 2.75 Shekel now. The currency is relatively stable, it usually moves between 1.5 and 1.8 to the USD. It's relatively strong now at 1.52 because the USD is weak.

Areas

It is quite difficult to find areas in Singapore which are Not suitable for kids. The entire island is one of the safest countries you can find. Probably the main areas to void are Serangoon and Geylang (sometimes referred to by some property agents as "near Aljunied" or "around Paya Lebar"). Finding a place is usually done via property agents, you look through the newspaper and make some calls to agents featuring properties you might interested to check out. They should then do most of the work and get in touch with you about possible properties which will be of interest to you. It's not possible, IMO to find a place while overseas. Unless you book some fancy serviced apartment for the time being (around 5K upward per month). You can also check some properties here: http://singaporeexpats.com/housing-in-singapore/search-for-property.htm If you're in Singapore already get in touch, I'll give you my agent's contact, he's been helpful in the past.
