James Christopher Carmack was born on December 22, 1980. He uses his middle name to avoid family mix-ups because his father's name is James as well. As a young boy, Chris enjoyed sports of all kinds including baseball and football. He loved to play around with all of his friends and make them smile. While attending Magrudar High School, Chris excelled in basketball and wrestling and in his spare time he performed plays and musicals. He was also part of the jazz and ensemble bands. By the time he graduated he had appeared in fifteen shows and had participated in numerous theater and Shakespeare festivals. He still found time to study hard and attain good grades. He decided to attend New York City University for it's drama department. After awhile in New York, he wanted more so he opted to spend a semester in Italy. He learned the language and the culture and returned to New York the following semester. He found himself being referred to an agent who got him a job modeling for Abercrombie and Fitch. Chris took the job for the money to support himself but deep down he knew that he still wanted to act. He left NYU after his sophomore year so he could move to Los Angeles to continue modeling and study acting. He finally landed a small role in the Comedy Central show Strangers With Candy in 2000. But it would take dozens of more auditions to land another notable acting job. He was invited to audition for The O.C. and the first time he read Luke's lines he fell in love with the character. Chris landed the part hands down.
