The Source Magazine has issued a press release today stating that Eminem pulled out of his lawsuit against them last week in order to avoid taking the stand in defense of his "racist songs". According to The Source, Em withdrew the suit two weeks before he was slated to take the stand to answer questions about songs in which he reportedly call Black people, "ni99as," "Porch Monkeys" and "Spear Chuckers." The magazine's owners are saying it was a "cowardly" move by Em to avoid having to take the stand. "It was a cowardly move for Eminem to back out of his lawsuit against us just two weeks before he was going to have to take the stand, but it doesn't surprise me," says The Source co-founder Ray Benzino. "The fact that he lied about his past and still hasn't had the courage to come out in public and address his racist songs, shows the lack of respect he has for the Hip-Hop community." "These guys had us in court for two years now, claiming we were guilty of copyright infringement just because we reported on the racist songs that Eminem made," David Mays, co-Founder and CEO of The Source continued. "Now, they admit that we were right all along, after they spent the past two years telling everyone that The Source has no integrity and that we have a 'personal vendetta' against Eminem," "We have had to spend a lot of money in court, not to mention that Interscope Records has pulled millions of dollars of advertising from our magazine and tried to influence others to do the same. And a federal judge watches all of this take place and then allows them to withdraw without any penalty. That is how crazy this situation is." Nearly two weeks ago, Em's lawyers withdrew their lawsuit against The Source, stating that there was "nothing left to win." "The judge already decided we have the copyright, and he awarded us $131,000 in sanctions. So the case has no purpose anymore," Slim's attorney, Donald David told New York's Daily News. Slim sued The Source for copyright infringement after the publication distributed a pre-recorded song in its January 2004 issue. The CD featured a young Eminem spitting derogatory remarks about Black females and using the "N" word. Now, The Source plans to release the entire recording in the coming weeks. The self-proclaimed Hip-Hop bible also contends that Slim was 21-years-old when he made the song in 1993. The rapper originally claimed he was 16 at the time of the recording.
