After a successful first season, Smallville ended with a cliffhanger which left Lex on the verge of a life-changing decision, a reporter with proof of Clark´s alien heritage and Lana being swept away by a tornado. "You´ll see a resolution to the cliffhanger," said executive producer Alfred Gough. "We´re going to come back in the middle of the tornado, and the cliffhanger will actually raise more questions than it solves. It will sort of turn everybody on their ear. And I think it will be very interesting to see what happens to that spaceship that´s in the storm cellar." This season, look for Clark to get a new power and one of his friends to discover his secret. "If last year was sort of self-discovery, I think the themes this year are going to be, for Clark anyway, to be learning about his origins and what his destiny will be. I think you´ll see Lex also on the same sort of path now that he´s sort of broken away from his father and he´s on his own. And then for Lana ... after the tornado, I mean it´s pretty apparent that Clark will save her. But I think she´ll start to look at Clark in a different light. We´ll see her also put on a journey. Some sort of old secrets will be revealed, which will make her rethink her life and what she´s been doing," said Gough. "The first season was about journey and self-discovery.
