זה מה שכתב לי עורך הדין   there is no difference in personal liability between a single member LLC or a two member LLC. The members have the same protection against personal liability for the company obligations/liabilities.     If your wife owns half the LLC, and she files bankruptcy, then the court could take her half of the LLC and sell it to raise money to pay her creditors. The LLC doesn’t shelter assets from your personal creditors. The membership interest is an asset subject to sale, the same as if you owned stock in a publically traded company.     The main reason for the LLC is to protect the members from personal liability resulting from the properties owned by the LLC. So if a tenant is injured and sues, they sue the LLC, not the members. If they win, they can take the assets owned by the LLC (the houses) but they shouldn’t be able to take any of member’s personal assets.     As to you and your wife transferring money to the LLC, that shouldn’t expose you to liability. I would think any money either of you transfer to the LLC would be a loan, so that when you pull the money out of the LLC its repayment of a loan, and not profit. Making a loan to a company does not obligate a person on the company’s liabilities.     John D’Aurizio
