438 miles A review of Mike Barber's track log and start point showed that he went 438 miles (705 km) a couple of days ago and therefore not far enough to eclipse Manfred's world record in spite of the fact that he flew 3 miles further than Manfred. Mike needed to fly 1% further than Manfred's 435 miles (700 km), and therefore he needed to fly 440 miles, which he could of but didn't. Mike did land a two or three minutes after sunset with his 3-mile strobe light on. He landed on the road going west to Hobbs , NM out of La Mesa , the town where Manfred had landed last year.
